  • Every year, hundreds of laptops are stolen. There are two things you need to consider. First is prevention, the second is recovery.

How To Stop Your Laptop From Being Stolen:

If you look at the side of your laptop, usually in the upper right hand corner, you'll find a horizontal opening. This is the laptop's "standard built-in security slot". There are several products on the market, which interface to this slot, and allow you to lock-down your laptop, much like you'd lock-down a bike with a chain. Our favorite is the X-lock.

How To Recover Your Stolen Laptop:

If the maid is carrying a good pair of wire-cutters with her, you may still lose that laptop of yours (We're using a hotel maid as a funny example, it could be anyone and your laptop could be anywhere). There are several software packages on the market, which will act like homing devices. If your laptop is stolen, these virtual beacons will reach out and touch someone the next time a phone line is plugged into the laptop (without the thief knowing about it).
