  • I'm sure you've seen the 'trick' like the one in the pop-up window before (If you didn't see a pop-up window, click here). Although you usually see it presented to you as a 'trick', this information can, and most likely is, used to keep tabs on you, and your surfing behavior. Advertisers will use that information, in conjunction with little preference files called cookies, to keep track of what sites you visit so that they can present you with better "targeted ads". This information can be used to restrict access to sites, or to display alternative information based on who you are, what browser you use, etc. Don't like the thought of other people knowing that much about you?
