Will I be eligible for Windows 7 upgrade?

I have a dell laptop with 2 OS license. XP and Vista. Can I upgrade to Windows 7 at upgrade cost or will it be a new purchase?

It will probably depend on your market area to some extent. As you have a Dell, I would imagine that at least one of your installed Windows is OEM, and I don't think that would be upgradable.

If you also have an "off-the-shelf" version then it should be, as it is transferrable. Obviously, when you upgrade you lose the right to use the original OS.

The upgrade advisor just tells you about hardware and software issues.............. not licensing ;)

If you purchase the "Upgrade" retail copy, then neither of the Operating Systems will be transferrable (meaning whichever one you upgrade, it can't be transferred). If you purchase the "full" version, and don't have an OEM copy that you plan to upgrade, then it should be transferrable (the OEM copy won't either way).

I read your post to mean that it originally had XP and now has Vista, but I could be wrong. If that's the case, then it's probably an OEM copy, so you can use either retail version-- but not transfer the original OS.

Nihil the upgrade advisor (i think) also lets you know if you can upgrade the OS or no. Once i ran the upgrade advisor it clearly said that I can upgrade to 7 Professional, ultimate and enterprise.

I anyway have lot of copies of licence keys of XP at work :) .. If nothing works i can install XP and later upgrade although i am not sure how that will work since it requires a fresh install.. whatever i'm still covered i guess..

Now if i can only find a student to help me out more.. ;)

Well if you were near Eastern Iowa, I'd come and do the installation for you.. lol I doubt you'll want to pay airfare+hotel though :P

Just put one of those installs in, and sacrifice it to the Windows Gods'. LOL
