when it comes to port scanning, nmap is the only way to go.

hello,
I agree with the Nmap statements. Also, Shields up is a great free resource to test your system from the outside in: https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2

I have to agree on nmap.
It is probably the most used.
I have read something about sscan though. Does anyone have experience with that ?

NMAP + NESSUS. Nuff Said.
Thanks,

I am not sure nmap is what you want!
NMAP is a scanner that detect port on remote PC, but what if you want to know open ports in your home PC?
An answer is Shields UP at GRC.com, it will tell u what port are open on your computer. I don't know if it exhaustive or not? But it may help u.
An other way is to ask a friend to scan your PC with NMAP(NMAP is also available for M$)!

nmap [] [] 127.0.0.1 does the trick quite nicely for your own box too Networker.
Whoops.....or you could hit yourself from your WAN Ip Addy from the outside in (failed to mention that in the last post).
-
assuming that our friend dac0 is running windows (nmap or any application which uses the winPCAP libraries) he shouldn't be able to scan localhost or 127.0.0.1 ??? or did they fix that?

I found a pretty good site that may help for knowing how your PC face the internet world

I'm able to do it on my Redhat 8.0 box and XP tampabay420, was there a version that didn't allow this?
