Hrmm... a mystery indeed. Have you sent a note to snort.org asking them?
I'm not sure why they removed them... but there are other places that have them too.
I know its better to get them from the source... as anyone could have modded/trojaned them....

Yeah, I have found them all over the place but as you have mentioned, I'd rather get them from snort. I see that you can get the tarball but compiling and installing snort that way is a total pain in the ass. I'd rather use the RPM.
I will e-mail snort to see what is up however they certainly aren't my best friends (Phish, you know why ;) )
Thanks!

Yeah, pretty soon you'll know why. Keep your eyes on BugTraq.
Uh-oh, sounds like the horse finally broke the pig. :)

The binaries haven't been there for a while now. I have been downloading and installing snort from source several times in my lab over the past 2 weeks, playing....
LOL, I don't think I can take credit for breaking it, I think that award goes to the developers. ;)Quote:

If you are desperate for the binary you can run to a book store and get the book that snort.org put out. I like it and bought it for fun and to increase my knowledge of the inner workings of snort it's self. I could not find alot of cohesive detail that wasn't wrapped up and disguised in someone elses ego. ;) I tend to do that myself, but I bought "Snort 2.O Intrusion Detection" ISBN 1-931836-74-4 (comes with all software) and "Intrusion Detection with Snort - Advanced IDS techniques using Snort, Apache, MySQL, PHP and ACID" ISBN 0-13-140733-3 So far so good but I just bought them a few hours ago at lunch time. Already learned a lot but I am a novice at snort. A nOOb.
Interesting, according to their book... "...depending on the release number and release date, there are not always binaries available..". So when there is a new release, it takes the binaries a while to catch up and they only release the binaries for current versions? Anyway, there is a new release today! Just when i get 2.0.0 working great... They also reference that www.rpnfind.net link in the official snort book as well, so I would mostly trust it.
Going to make a new install for 2.0.0.1 now. ;)
Note this line from snort.org "lots of NEW rules and tons of rule documentation"
