Setup.exe will not run
Hi
I'm having an awful problem trying to install new programs - DVDs, CDs, or zipped programs stored on the PC on a different drive, all come up with "setup.exe has stopped working", then when you click details, this is what it lists as the problem:
Description:
Setup did not complete successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Problem signature:

Problem Signature 01: {10120000-0F00-0000-0000--0000000FF1CE}

OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1

Additional information about the problem:
LCID: 1033
I can't make head nor tail of it, but as I haven't even got Office back installed on this new windows reinstall, it's pretty serious. I'm running Vista Ultimate by the way.
Anyone understand what it's saying?

have you tried to repair the OS install ?
also LCID - 1033 [locale ID]
I thought you were UK
Session.LCID = 2057 'This is the English(British) format
Session.LCID = 1033 'This is the English(United States) format.

it could be the system is set to one zone, yet 'sees' another ?
check it under control panel - regional and language options

Hi Moira,
Have you any virtualisation software installed?
The only other thing I have heard of along those lines was something to do with the uninstaller and the Registry settings for it, but that was ages ago when it was still in beta :(

I am terribly sorry! For some reason the forum stopped sending me topic reply notifications and I assumed there had been no replies!
foxyloxley I have checked and it is definitely UK settings everywhere. You are right, I am from the UK. I cannot see anything wrong! I think I may try a reinstall, indeed I will have no option, but to my knowledge though Vista can recover a b0rked boot menu, it doesn't do the repair install XP did. System restore is probably useless, as this is quite a new install and it has happened more or less straight away. Perhaps something didn't install correctly.
Thanks for your help everyone!

New reply notifications can be tricky, Moira. If you're still logged in when you get a reply, even though you may have already closed your browser, the forum won't send a notification. If you don't logout and just close the browser, there is a 15 minute window where you will still show as logged in.
