Water cooling your CPU

I did a forum search and found that there was little discusion about case mods....

has anyone done any case modding of their own?

Water-cooling your CPU? I don't think I like that idea too much. The idea of water being so close to the innards of my PC is more than I could stomach.

i know water near a 200 dollar cpu....thats enough to make anyone scared ...one little leak and there gos the computer ill stay with a lot of big ass fans for now

Yeah, must say I wouldn't like water all over the insides of my computers either!!

Hah, imagine...with my younger generation of cousins running around sticking knives and pens into my CD Tray (I have like three of them...I use one...imagine that). I don't think that having my PC being toppled over a few times and for me only to find a puncture in the casing of my water cooler sending one of them to the hospital where I would be sued and put into jail for illegally having a water cooler in my CPU since a law passed just the other day required all had to be taken out and replaced with fans...Ah, ...anybody know a BestBuy/Electronics Boutique around the DC Metropolitin area?

Overclocking, I still don't see what people like about it. It's risky, ****s up your system and for what? That little extra clock speed wich cannot make a diffrence but only for small calculations. One failure in your cooling system and your box is fried.

hmm the first time i read the topic "Water cooling your CPU" i had the "Wat da?!!" impression.. hahah

water and computer just dont mix.. and dun even try to figure out why.. haha

i lost tons of hardware coz of water accidents.. coz of my 5 yr old cousin..

even one time.. when i just bought a 256MB stick to add to my memory.. i placed the stick over my computer table while i opne my computer appart in the floor.. my lil cousin was around playin and while i was trying to pull the computer appart (not all) i suddenly heard a snap... when i looked around.. i saw the kid holding my 256MB stick and it was broken in half...

imagine how i felt at that moment.. hahah preety ****..

i wouldn't actually water cool my cpu either....but i found it interesting to read about it...
i stumbled upon the concept when i was checking out the case mods and thought *holy s#!t! there are people that actually do this? I wonder HOW?* ...just thought i'd share it with AO...

Water coolinghas nothing to do with watre harming your CPU it's just that overclocking is useless.
Expensive lasers used at huge raves etc are alsp watercooled.

Hell.. i did it 1 time.. yes.. 1 time.. then i stopped...

we had an older Celeron 300A.. and we were running it at 650 ( 133 mhx clock speed) and we neded it cold.. so.. we used fans.. and it was sitting at 114 deg. F.... a lil too hot.. so we got the bright idea of taking a fish tank pump... and a tank full of ice.. and put it in the fridge... ran each end outta the fridge,.. placed on end on a pump.. one end on a metal coil of copper tube./.. and walla..

Isnt there a liquid cooling fluid that will not short electronic.. hense. electricity will not go through.. and wont rust?

yeah... there is.. though i just dont remember what its called.. coz i have 4 friends who are bloody over-clockers.. loves to over clock their cpu.. and i remember them talking about some cooler which uses a liquid matterial that stays cool all the time to keep it cold..

Being a former car stereo installer, I have all sorts of ideas for cooling of the CPU. We designed a few custom cooling systems for amplifiers. One was a water cooled system, another used antifreeze to keep the insides cool. We never had problems with leaks. My favorite was a sort of cold air induction that had like a mini air conditioner and a fans that pushed in the cold air, and piped out the warm air. The problem with this was that moisture would build up because of the air conditioning unit.

yes there a liquid cooling fluid that won't short it out its called liquid nitrogen. the are bloody expensive too

Like we really need more cpu speed at this point. We can't write code for what we have now. I guess those that do it do it for the novelity of the idea and the challenge.

An alternative to h2o cooloing that works quite well is a peltier. Run a google search on `peltier' and see if you like what you read. My cpu was hanging out around 37 degrees C, by just adding a peltier underneath my swiftech m462-a hsf, I have lowered the mean temp. to about 16-19 degrees C.

two ways I've run across, in pictures, are creating a sealed case where the fluid that circulates actually touches the cpu. The other is by having a heat sink and water cooling the heat sink itself. I would bet on the fermer having better poerformance.
But then again, who cares, nasa?

Water cooling CPUs is an idea that has been used for some time. If you look at mainframes (IBM etc.), and various supercomputers (Cray etc.) several years back they all used water cooling in some form or another. Still used today for certain supercomputers because it does boost performance significantly. Effectively you are talking about overclocking in the region of 400%, because you can keep the chips cool enough, but on the other hand you are using chips that are designed to generate a lot of heat.
Don't think I will try this out on my PC though :D

Just in defense of the 'overclockers'...I have tried the whole 'overclocking' thing, just for fun...unfortunately, I have a Pentium(Intel) chip in my computer, and they don't respond well to being ****ed with and actively set up walls in certain BIOS functions to prevent the attempt to overclock. Getting around these restrictions, and playing with the voltage, etc was quite a bit of fun:), but not something that I would want to risk all the time, even with multiple fans, water jackets, etc... I did though, have my 350MHz chip benchmarking at 525 or so, for the short time I had it going. So yes, the challenge and novelty of it is the best part, but I wouldn't want to have to spend the $ to turn my box into a Borg-looking piece of equipment, when it would be easier to just buy a new board and faster chip. (The overclocked version did keep my feet really warm, though:))

Hey i found those galleries and the pictures there really amazing, i wonder how they do that....

i've spoken to a couple of people who have actually done it with a dremel ...tracing a stencil that they drew onto the case...lol.
i guess it's not that hard, but it's kind of risky because if you mess up you need to buy a new case....or live with the mistake.

Water cooling its good but have some problems the metal jacket can start to swet and water and energy its not a good thing but
water cooling can solve overheat problems and if you do it right there is no danger

there is a new technology in market there is too expensive for homeusers but but the technology makes the temperature fall to -40ºc

Another good site that deals with both case mods and overclocking/watercolling is IamNotAGeek. They have a similar forum set up to that of AntiOnline also.........

Yes its called H2O hehe....distilled water(totally pure) will not conduct electricity ....only the desolved elements in water conduct. Yes yes its true....check it out. :shocked:





It can cause rust however :(
