Their UK site was hacked?? Holy wow I never even knew they had a UK site up until this. Hrmm, interesting (the deface). Haven't heard of a Microsoft site defacement either really (again, before this).
That's because www.microsoft.com has yet to be hacked... I had website that had a list of all defacements to any MS site... One of their south american sites had been hacked like 6 times... The site also had cached versions of the defaced sites... It was pretty cool.. I'll post it if I find it...
Really? Wow, that's fascinating. How many M$ website's are there? As you can guess, I don't frequent their website's. :D
there are heaps of m$ websites ... depends what country your in .....
i think microsoft.com has had servers broken into just not the main page defaced....
Hrmm, oh well. Even microsoft.com I don't visit much, just seem's pointless and a waste of time. It's like coming to AntiOnline.com and asking how to hack hotmail :D
yea... It was some old database server that didn't get much use, and hadn't been updated in 3 days or so, and it got hacked... MS really has to keep their boxes updated...
It would be nice to keep their software flaw's and vulnerabilities updated (as well as minimized) but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon, now is it?
well we all know nothing is completely secure .. and that people are gonna try for microsft to embarass them .. and M$ is seen as a great target to break into ... :)
When you have as many servers running as that, I am sure those little things pass you by easily... Especially on an old server that doesn't get much attention.
Ummmmmmmmmm,use a TOS.Quote:

tell that to m$ heh ;)
hmm, wasnt update.microsoft.com in trouble a while back. It all seems fine now though. Reason? Fingerprint it and see for your self ;)
Cheers.
Hmmm... this is interesting since MS claims that they get patches out in 72 hours.Quote:

Windows Critical Update, patch your servers before we do! They nag end users about patches and updates, and cant even keep up with the crap they serve.

Microsoft's IT department is well aware of the hassle involved in patching the company's systems every time a Windows vulnerability is discovered. In the same way customers are forced to patch their systems, Microsoft's IT department deploys Windows updates as often as they're issued. Because of the testing involved, it can take up to 72 hours to roll out a patch across the company. Markezich says his organization doesn't get any head starts; Microsoft's IT department gets Windows fixes at the same time you do.
The diligence to patching has paid off. The last time Microsoft's internal computer systems got nailed by a companywide virus was the Slammer attack in January 2003. Since then, Blaster, MyDoom, and Sasser have been non-events, at least internally.
If Microsoft's own experience is a guide, it's possible to create a secure, full-featured, global Windows environment on a lower-than-average IT budget. That would suggest Markezich just stepped into one of the easiest of CIO jobs. Or one of the toughest.
heh i was lucky to open that site before the deface. after a refresh it looked like Owned by OutLaw Group and after a few minutes site was closed. i saved that web into my comp.
Owned OutLaw Group by Pharoeste e Wolfblack.htm
i'm uploading those files into server so if you want you can see it at www.demkat.net/ard/microsoft/
i hope you like that :)
