OK ARE YOU KIDDING ME! WAS THERE REALLY A NEED FOR THIS???
http://pauldotcom.com/2010/07/metasploit-new-gui.html
Hold on to your hats, boys and girls, I hear the hoards a massing
Hey, why not? I mean really, there ARE still valid uses for it. What if some admin wants to test his network out, but he's a Windows admin and doesn't know what he's doing? This point and click stuff helps them.
These tools are a lot like guns, knives, and scalpels; In the wrong hands you can slit a throat, shoot someone, and stab someone. In the right hands, you can gather food, defend yourself, and perform life saving surgery. A lot of tools can both make or destroy things :)
Gore are you trying to say that Smith & Wesson created the first point and click interface?
I don't know, maybe I'm just having a bad day. I only use Metasploit with Back Track so I guess I would use the thing. I don't know. I am a lazy bastard.
The command line interface has always seemed pretty easy to me. If that is too hard for a person, they probably shouldn't be using metasploit in the first place.
Ahhh come on. It's not like things haven't changed over the years. Remember when grades were :
A
B
C
D
E
F
And then the stupid kids complained and they said "Well, an 89 is kind of like an A, we'll call it an A-..." So they lowered the bar just a little?
And then they did it again because every kid says there is a reason he does bad, or doesn't know anything, and it's not because he's a ****ing idiot, it's because he's a "different learner"!
Well, after a while, I'm sure people with PHDs started wondering "Could they even lower the bar farther than THIS!?" And then we got online Degrees! Ding, winner! No teacher to see if you actually cheated on every test? Awesome!
Lol. This is just an extension. They made a Hacking for Dummies book, and now they made a User Interface for it lol.
I guess that's what scares me. As GUI's evolve, you won't have to understand command lines, passing parms, or even what you are attacking. Picture this:
Windowed File menu
Start|Configure|View|Help
Under start there is an option to scan all available networks. By default it is a passive scan
Under Configure there is a list of exploits with a option for "All Exploits"
So Skiddie selects "All Exploits" and scans all available networks.
Skiddie knows this is going to take a while because the "POP UP" window told him so and the "Status Bar" is barely moving.
There are many vulnerabilities that simply cannot be patched. While few and far between, to exploit said vulnerability in any useful way, one really needs to understand the vulnerability.
Not any more! Well not yet, but I phear "Not any more"!
Hasn't the metasploit GUI be around for a while?
It seems like there was one at least for Windows in the past. But if I remember correctly, I have read that it was not very good, and that the cli was much easier to navigate.
That's true for most apps. There's only so much you can point on and click on, and when you take into account all those options... Eventually it's going to be a lot faster to type it than try clicking on them all.
