H/D +Cracked c/board
Hi
My brother brought me a h/d that has a cracked controller board.
He needs some of the files on it and asked if i could get them back for him.Now i was wondering if i could replace the controler board with one from another h/d that was the same make and size.
Please if you have any ideas let me know
Thank you
Mike

Sorry if I didn't answer your question. But as far as my guru told me last time (if my memory serve me well) once it is broke the whole thing gone. But may be now a days there is a technology for that kind of thing.

you either change the h/d or go and claim warranty.
if information is critical on ur H/d then go to a data recovery professional.
good luck

If you have an identical hdd you can swap the boards...
I have done so successfully twice .. (a maxtor and a seagate)
You might need weird screwdrivers (torque or even weirder) and you need exactly the same hdd as a board donor..

Jinksy is right, it can be done, but the two drives have to be absolutely identical.
Yes, you may need some fancy screwdrivers..........it is TORK by the way..............I would love to see someone using a torque tool on a HDD :D There are also some advanced philips/posidrive ones I have seen..........4 slots on two tiers?, I have the driver bits but I don't know what they are called.
Data recovery is seriously expensive. Last time I checked it was around $10 per Mb.............now the bad news, they recover all or nothing so a 20Gb drive is like 20 x 1000 x $10

nihil: actually it's TORX. ;)
anyways, it is completely possible. i have done it several times...even with non-identical drives...
