Mcafee Virus Scan 6.0

It comes with the new a improved version of VirusScan 6.0 which is much better then Norton Anti-Virus 2002. Also, to just make things better, it comes with Mcafee Firewall 3.0.

Support NAI for this masterpiece. However, you should wait just a little longer for things to settle before buying it, though.

You sound like you're working for McAfee or something. I use Norton Corporate Edition, and think it's far better than McAfee. What do you have to say about that?

I personally use InoculateIt 6.0 and i love it. As for McAfee I used to have it and hated it.It always locked up my system. Like everybody else said you do sound like your from McAfee.:D

Mcafee is good, i liked it alot better than NORTON 2001 it picked up alot more VIRUSES when i ran a few scans on friends machines than norton, but what is it that it doenst like with I.E. 6.0, there seems to be some problems with the WEBSCAN file and I.E. 6

No, I'm not related to Mr. McAfee. I believe that Mcafee Virus Scan 6x is still buggy. Instead, I recommend your guys to use 5.12 for now. Mcafee picks up more viruses and trojans comparing to any other leading Anti-Virus software. This is always the problem with mcafee, their ideas are great, but the final product is always buggy. For example, Nut & Bolts 98 was extremly buggy. Also, there are currently no updates for Mcafee Virus Scan 6 (Virus definition)....... :mad:

Maybe like a year later, then buy the Internet Security 4x from McAfee then....:rolleyes:

You just got done telling us how good McAfee 6 is, and trying to push it on us. Now you say it's buggy, and that we should go with 5.12. Make up your mind.

Personally I think that nothing good has ever come out of Mcafee labs at all. I'm gonna have to side with stflook as far as running the Norton Corporate 2002. It is an excellent program which has Smart Scanning which detects abnormal system activity as well as built in Script-Blocking which prevents virii like Nimda from being downloaded from the web. So acting like McAfee just invented those features isn't anything to get all hot and bothered about. I forgot to mention that Norton does make a firewall but unfortuneatly it isn't bundled with it's virus scanner (they decided they would use CD space on the virus scanner not useless firewalls). So Mr. I-work-for-McAfee I'm afraid that your opinion (which seems to change very quickly) doesn't faze me at all.

Let's also not forget that McAfee has the WORST security defaults possible.

Well, I didn't throughtly test out the product before recommanding it. Well, let's be honest here, Mcafee was 100% speciallized in Anti-Virus Software untill they brought Cybermedia, and Conseal.

However, I believe that you should stick to Mcafee 5.x for now, wait until the technology gets better.

Norton, I personally found that they're now just money grabbing son-of-bitchs. They're not as detercated to computing as they used to be. For example, their Firewall from beginning (which was very good) to now (which has much less functions and less protection)! Also, they tend to shuff garbage codes into their program too. The demo version of the Personal Firewall is like 10MB and comparing to any other firewall that has the same function (only better), it's much larger!!!!

Norton Personal Firewall, cost a bargan, lack of feature. This firewall cost about $50USD, and it only comes with the world's most basic feature. Intrustion Detection, I pretty sure that it's not really a real intrustion detection system. Neowatch also claims that their Firewall also has intrustion detection system, but when I took it up for a test drive, it's just a basic firewall(test out Norton, too). What Norton Personal Firewall does is basically what Tinysoft Personal Firewall does, or Zonealarm does.

Also, comparing to Norton Internet Security 2000 ver. 2.0, you can see that Norton has reduced the features of the program. Like $50 USD??? REally Worth it?????

I have used McAfee since the early DOS versions. It was the number one overwhelming cause of the BSOD's that I got under Win9x.

Now, with Win 2000, it was the cause of many conflicts in IExplorer 6.

After some discussion with McAfee, the best they could tell me to do was to downgrade to IE5x.

The auto update has never worked for me and downloading and installing the updated DAT files caused a lockup on reboot every time.

Sorry, yesterday, I bought my first Norton A/V software (2002).

So far, I'm very happy.

McAfee just lost a customer.

Whoa. I thought we were talking about their virus scanner. So, what's so bad bout Norton's VIRUS SCANNER (not firewall)?

I use a free Virus utility called AVG and I think its great. It updates itself often too. I have had no troubles with it and it has detected many viruses that mcafee overlooked. Peace.:)

I have been a faithful user of Mcafee for a long time, (for their Virusscan only, not their firewall) and their stuff has worked for me great. I highly recommend this product. (No I am not working on commision for Mcafee.) For a firewall, I use and would recommend ZoneAlarm.

and on a whole, I'm more than happy with its performance...
I find that it is very effective with its system resource usage.... I have had it start a full system scan while I was playing Max Payne, and my game was still playable....

The only thing I am not 100% happy with is its email scanning, as it can cause quite a delay in the delivery.....

McAfee used to choke off my resources, too. With Norton, I can run full system scans on all my drives, plus every remote drive on my network, and have no resource problems. McAfee sometimes took up 75% of my processor just running in the background. There is no excuse for that. McAfee represents all that is evil.

Norton AntiVirus 2002 + Zone Alarm Pro + User Intelligence = Good Windows Security Package

NAV2002 is fine if you know what you're dealing with and what to suspect and when. ZAPro is a good windows firewall and there is no substitute for a user that knows whats happening on their computer and can do something about it!

I find this discussion about antivirus products interesting, I do alot of virus removal and have even done my own studies on 10 products and plotted my results which make for interesting reading using the latest version of the products available at the time approx 6 mths ago with the latest updates all downloaded on the same days and configuring all to the same settings your products like Norton 2001 scored 75% and mcafee 5 scored 82% of the ten products accuracy ranged from 60-96% with only 2 products scoring over 84% and one at 60% the other 7 products were between 70-84% so dont put too much faith in your antivirus scanners this was using the maximum setting with full heuristics so for the average jo with his Antivirus Program set to only scan program files things dont look too good.
I will also say that I found that I also had alot of trouble with mcafee locking up my system, also had problems with the update feature locking up.
Mcafee have released version 6 which I have not tried so I can not comment but I will get a copy at some stage and test with the same samples from previous tests to see what the difference is.

I used the same samples for all my tests.

Could you tell me which one scored 96% accuracy? Is it any good as far as stability and resource usage? Is it free? Please, spread the knowledge.

If I am working for Mcafee, wouldn't I kick off 10% off the retail price for you people? Also, Mcafee VirusScan 4.x or 5.x should eat up over a max. of 20% of your system's resource if your system is config. properly.

Well, if Mcafee Internet Security has/have very few bugs in it, I'm sure that it will have a greater protection comparing to any other products on the Market today! (Even more secure than Windows XP......... hehehe)
