Server and Torrents

Ok so I have a server setup using FreeBSD and bit tornado. I have a script running on the server for bit tornado to pick up any .torrent files dropped in a certain folder and start downloading the torrent. This works great if im using a private tracker site ex. supertorrents but if i use a public tracker or torrent file ex a torrent from torrentspy or torrent portal the torrent files seem to not want to connect and download, does anyone know why. Server is on a 100Mbit line.
