Strange stuff
Something funny happend a few minutes ago. I was playing HitMan 2 when my PC started dailing out without permission. I did everything.... Checked logs, checked for weird lan settings, checked for active-x setting, checked MSN messager. I managed to pick up the phone b4 it dailed but eveything seems to be clean though. No trojans or worms and the logs are clean as well.
Im running windows XP..... AND I HATE IT !!! Any ideas on what could have happend other than a intrusion attempt??

i know this seems really obvious and youve probly checked it, but it could have been an auto update for a program or part of windows, ive had this sort of thing before where programs will just dial numbers like there is no tomorow, download managers and antivirus programs are well known culprits to me and considering the nature of microsoft products XP is most likely doing this sort of thing as well

Go to network connections and then go to advanced. Choose dial up prefrences and take the check mark out of the boxes for connections, This is how I stoped. Its caused by msn messanger i belive

Greetings:
It could very well be a trojan dialer, (these often dial some 900 number, or an expensive exchange, that'll rack up your phone bill). These types of dialers are VERY commonly distributed on porn sites and the like. Often disguised as a movie, or something similar.
I'd check my active processes if I were you....

Your email if your using outlook also has options for automatically dialing out so that it could check your mail automatically. A problem of such could be anything, personally i would have let it connect to see what happens, then remove the phone cord just to be safe.

No automatic dailing I've already checked for stuff like that and beyond. Either my MSN messenger promted me to connect and I clicked it by mistake or something is in my system trying to dail out. I've checked my browser & my MSN messager and neither have the autodail set.
It has been a few hours since it happend & I haven't really been downloading things....
It sounded like it was dailing my ISP not some hotline, something payloaded with a worm maybe?
Well I guess I'll be checking out files, looking for active-x startups and any interactions with my browser, telnet, winsock, & (ect)
Wait a minute..... I remember something. My dailup box never appeared. It just dialed!
Yet already checked MSN & my browser for autodial so It has to be a trojan or a some type of auto-update.
:p The funny thing is that now that im no longer pissed off & paraniod im feeling the thrill of exploreing my PC's guts.
