If my connection to a server is via a switch and then secure hosts is there any way someone could sniff my traffic ?
if your comp is connected directly to a switch then to a secure host if you mean a host out side of your network yes but if the host is secure the packets should be encrypted which would be no use to some one sniffing you unless they really wanted the information and wear willing to try to decrept it. Also if on your network if you just connect to one switch your fine but if their is more then one and they are connected switch to switch you could get some one who could sniff you if they have physical access to the switch they would be able to plant a device that would allow them to sniff you.Quote:

If by secure you mean something that uses encryption like HTTPS, then unless they have the time, desire, and processing power, then your safe from sniffing. However, just because a network is using a switch instead of passive hub, is not guarantee that sniffing cant be done.
There's various tricks that can be done with the arp protocol and man-in-middle techniques that can comprise a switch. Use encryption between your system and something like a proxy, then bounce your requests off that to the broader internet. Unless an attacker has or can comprise the network the proxy is on, you should be ok...
First thing is that no matter what the status of the client is on the network, anyone within the network can SNIFF, but from outside no one can sniff in. Well if you are secure host then the sniffer will get the junk information, mean it will be no meaningful to s/he, but with some skills they can make it useful but with efforts.Quote:

If the attcker is on the same LAN as you they could use arpspoofing to sniff around the switch.Quote:

As the others have said, it’s best to use encrypted protocols when possible.
