Globalization
I heard on the news that there will
be a big protest rally in Washington D.C.
against globalization.
I found a quote for the opposite point of view:
Anxiety about globalization also exists in advanced economies. How real is the perceived threat that competition from "low-wage economies" displaces workers from high-wage jobs and decreases the demand for less skilled workers? Are the changes taking place in these economies and societies a direct result of globalization?
Economies are continually evolving and globalization is one among several other continuing trends. One such trend is that as industrial economies mature, they are becoming more service-oriented to meet the changing demands of their population. Another trend is the shift toward more highly skilled jobs. But all the evidence is that these changes would be taking place—not necessarily at the same pace—with or without globalization. In fact, globalization is actually making this process easier and less costly to the economy as a whole by bringing the benefits of capital flows, technological innovations, and lower import prices. Economic growth, employment and living standards are all higher than they would be in a closed economy.

i have always stood against globilization. there are many reasons why, most of which i really don't feel like going into now... but one of the problems with it is that it woulld make a global economy. and assuming this global economy exists. now what if two countries that are the foundation of this economy, (for example china and america) get in a war. the world economy will suffer more severely then it would if the same situation happened now. plus i feel that cultural diversity, which is important, will be sacrificed with globilization and will make globilization hard to implement. i have more reasons, but no desire to go on.

So we should all just stay inside little economic shells in case something happens in the big bad world?
And how has globalization changed cultural diversity. There are MacDonalds in india because there are people there who want it, otherwise they wouldn't be there. (Just to use one corporation as an example)

i say stay away from big communities....too many problems... no goodisolation is the key
-
A massive community isn't a good thing, but isolated comunities are even worse as far as benefits for the people go.
-
not true... and you misunderstand my point about cultural diversity. doi you realize how terrible it would trying to get everyone to agree on the things that would need to be agreed upon for there to be a global community? no one would agree on anything. it would be an incredible mess. and that would be no good.

why don't you try asking the african members who didn't bother to attend the last wto meeting what they think of globalization.
