I have a relative who thinks Kaza is the best program for downloading music and movie clips. I've never used it, but I've heard it is crap. I would be most appriciative if I could get some suggestions on it.
Thanks.

Not another Kazaa thread. Well here goes, Kazaa is crap because of all the spyware bundled in it and the banner ad's slow you're download's. Get Kazaa Lite K++ edition here. It has no spy/adware and no banners wich equal safer, faster, downloads.
Dont share files. Lots of ISP's are now just giving in to the RIAA lawsuits. Cox @ home (Cable ISP) has changed thier policy to basically just give up the information to the RIAA when someone is suspected.
kazaa is ok, i dont like all the mislabled files and virii that run rampant on there. Learn to use IRC, only takes a few days of tinkering to figure out how it all works, i mean come on, it's text based....
And best of all, irc is HUGE, so dont forget the search pages:
www.ircspy.com
www.packetnews.com
www.xdccspy.com
and for those interested in finding quality of video clips released on irc
www.vcdquality.com
CXGJarrod is right. It is safest not to download music at all but if you are going to, DON'T SHARE IT, just keep it for youreself, it might sound selfish but it will keep you out of a lot of trouble. And with all the skript kiddies and warez people irc isn't much safer as far as virii.
Kazaa Lite has been shut down by Kazaa networks (Sharman) because of ip infringement. If you try to d/l Kazaa lite from the link on the page you offered, it will time out and tell you that the kazaalite.tk domain is not even found.Quote:
Like the others said, use irc, or some friends.
What? Shut down? Mine still works but I downloaded it a long time ago. People must still be using the same fileserver. I suggest using Grokster instead then. Or Share Bear.
The program works, but the download from kazzalite.tk does not. (At least that is what I think he was trying to say)Quote:

I guess I Better burn my version onto disk then. In case I ever install a new OS.
Yeah, that was it. :DQuote:

Just to emphasize the danger in downloading music now-
8 people at my school, including someone 3 doors down (no pun intended) have been busted this year, it was published in a school newspaper. At my bros school in Indiana, there was a big deal with the FBI busting into a kids dormroom because he had simpsons soundclips on his computer. After they got his computer, they found all kinds of pirated movies on its second drive. I didn't hear what happened to him after, but my bro says hes doesnt have a car now.
Does anybody know the legal aspect of file sharing? Is it really illegal and on what criterias do the ISPs give in the information of the sharers? (shouldn't be random, right?)
damn! i had kazaa k++ but then messed up my computer! now i cant get it back! NO!!!
i really use Kazaa alot. i have never had any problems except the newer songs are skrewed up. bu no big deal. I have never encounterd any Viruses or anythinkg while filesharing. i all ways keep files to my self though (well at least i do now, since about march) So I guess I can't truly tell you a stright forward answer. But I'm risky and don't care about my Computer. so therfore i share files. But if you actually enjoy your "compy" then don't fileshare. if you really want streaming music then use Yahoo's Launch . hope i helped out :D
Shareaza is good as well. The Edonkey/Emule network is pretty safe. DL's are done differently but still good.
I'm not failing, but grades do not show anything at all. Unfortunately colleges use them.. :-( ****ING PISSES ME OFF!!!Quote:

The RIAA can line themselves up and all take turns licking my big furry balls. if they dont want me to download it they can either release the movie i had to download because of it being out of print, or they can drop the ****in prices of a CD. which im not worried about because most bands i listen to dont care if you pirate there songs.
and if anyone reads that saying yea right, go up to any REAL punk band and tell them your downloading there songs....None are going to get pissed at you and sue. **** if they did that theyd be called sell outs and boy cotted by the punks.
By the way. What the hell does this have to do with pyware or ad aware? You didnt even bring that up.Quote:

yea but he did not specify that at all. If he put this in the spyware area he shouldv brought up more than does it suck or not.
I have had this problem also. At first I thought that I didn't have the most recent codecs but i do. In the middle of a song it will make the most horrible skreeching noise. Perhaps a little present from the RIAA?Quote:

as far as i know, the kazaa lite website has been down for a while as for the riaa, isnt there an option that blocks there ports, and i also beleive that those prosta re updated i could always be wrong though i am newbie

/me throws another tequila down his throte
Kazaa is a lame app used by perverts morons and as we see now also mormons..
it's built around the idea that if lots of people have crap, it's easier to pass that crap around..
It's like christianity !
/me falls of chair and bumps head
I want that kazaa thingie too it will make me popular
and will proppably result in me spamming usefull fora with useless crap..
ah.. crap !!
Its not legal. If you go to the store and steal a cd, is that legal? We all rode the free music ride, but now its over. ISP's are giving away information when they get a court supena and they wont fight them anymore.Quote:

I still use it for samples. Alot of underground bands post home made **** as well, you can get some great cover tunes; but for the most part the program is good software and content is pretty much crap and spam anymore.
IF you download a song or some media type and you DO NOT have an original copy, then in the USA "land of the free, home of the brave", you are STEALING and the RIAA can bring a civil and/or criminal lawsuit agaist little old you setting there in front of a pc with your wanker hanging out...
A very good point. Sampling is a good thing. Sites like Mp3.com (closed right now for reconstruction) have a very good philosophy of promoting small bands and allowing them to have samples for download. I personally think that most of the people who go on Kazaa are looking for the latest Britney or latest one hit wonder. As a old fan of Napster and Kazaa, I have downloaded a lot of stuff that I could not find in a store. Those file sharing programs were awesome for finding live sets, which on the average tend to be a hell of a lot better than what they put out on CD.Quote:

Yeah man they are great for live stuff. I have some Dave Mathews stuff that was never released from his concerts. I like remixes too, not sure how that draws the line but I would guess they are illegal. You can get some great stuff from aspiring DJs mixing tracks. Hell the live stuff would even be illegal if you think about it but I don't think the RIAA is after a bootleg of Dave at the local bar. When you buy a convert ticket you agree to "not make a copy" except in rare bands like the Dead and others who not only allow recording they expect it! That is music right there...

it is without a doubth the safest and biggest...you just gota look.
Kazza is indeed a good site for downloading but hte spyware amount is ridculous kazza lite has the least
Yea it's hard to find good things anymore on those there p2p networks. Is it really so weird to want to have a film where a woman performs sexual acts on a sheep? come on now, i couldnt even find that on kazaa. :(
Someone said something about script kiddes and virrii on IRC. Unfortunately I cannot deny the Viral problem, but find another pier to pier that isn't likewise infected. IRC has to be one of the least dangerous. As for script kiddies over the past 5 years i have come to the opinion.
It's an honour amongst thieves system.
Nobody messes with me becuase I dont say anything unless it's worth saying. Most script kiddies know that IRC has real hackers on there, and only the very stupid ones will attack someone they don't at least have a small understanding on. Nobody attacs anybody becuase there t afraid that somebody could be somebody who actually knows what he's doing.
Keep your head down and do what you've gotta do, script kiddies will likely pass you over,
Although new to this board, I would like to share something that doesnt seem to come up very often. On several occasions, I have found a cd that I own which has scratches and other surface blemishes on it that prevent playback. Now, since I own the cd, I have already paid for those songs, or rather the right to own the songs and play them back on whatever media I choose. Seems right anyway. So, in this instance, I would use a P2P or other method to download a "free" song to replace the one on my cd that wont play. Seeing as how I own the song, it should follow that I should be able to download the song again and again if I so choose, doesnt it?
And taking that a step further, lets say that I go to a low-quality, used cd store and buy a crappy cd from the discount shelf for a dollar that has so many scratches on it that none of the songs will play. Are we following here? And then I use a P2P to download all of the songs for "free" again, because the ones that I now own wont play. So, in effect, I "legally" downloaded an entire cd for the original dollar I paid for it.
Anyone else out there following this logic? Not that one should do this, but staying within the realm of the law, isnt this possible? Could one use this method, and have a defense in court? I do believe so.
Unfortunately Stay Strong that is completely illegal.
I don't know why but it is.
There are a great deal of strange little cluases and loops within the rule that tells you no to pirateing etc.. that mean realisticly if you actually use the cd you bought, they could probably get you anyway. And thats just if your using it personally. To use it for bussiness purpose is almost a joke. Ranging from playing it in your office or on a PBX to DJ'ing and radio the rules seem bizarly frought with .... crap meaning did anyone read the Microsoft UELAbullshite thing, thats what we deal with in every day life by opening the things we buy. And the old line is ignorance is no excuse for the law. Logic equelling law is like politicians making sense. It aint gonna happen
