this is a question how???
its a metaphoric question of seeing if there is such thing as java hacking
You can hack in java..........
Hacking is, after all, just pushing technology to it's limits...........there's nothing wrong with saying that he wanted to hack in java.
Unless, of course, he was talking about cracking into someone's system using java--in which case, he's either extremely smart, and knows about some very arcane hole in the java vm, or very stupid, and deserves to be laughed at. Java interpreters are specifically designed not to allow java code to be used to crack into systems, after all.
I believe, though, that you mean a 'rhetorical' question.
I did not know u could hack in to something useing java. I have learned but that guys is extremly stupid so i doubt that he knew of a hole. but is there holes in the vm that can be xploited? Not to be lame, just wondering.
ok..I get it.
if you want java to try and hack...I guess it's possible. it's a programming language after all. I personally use Perl for scripting, and have thought about using C,
but havn't considered Java, in fact I don't like writing in java much...the platform independancy makes it slower than I would like
i just put metohpric cuz I couldn't think of the word for it, but thanks for the corection
I have just started to learn lauages I have always wanted to learn peral but I hear that not that many people use it, is that true? I mostly use c, I don't care for java for programing either becouse of the slowness but also I would only make a app for me so why would I care if it could run on a mac?
Ok......let's clear things up here.
Number one: breaking into systems is cracking, not hacking.
Number two: the most hostile thing you can do with java, because the vm (virtual machine--what it runs on) will not allow local disk/resource access to applets, is run the system out of memory. Java cannot, unless there is some very arcane bug in the virtual machine, be used to break into someone's system.
Sorry to burst your bubble, guys..........
ok ummm I thought cracking was when u try to get a password. I thought hacking was when U try to find a exploit in a system and use ir, or get around it. How would u crack into a server? Another thinng I was j/w if there were such arcane bug/hole?
Finding passwords is cracking, yes.
Hacking is generally the exploitation of technology--pushing it to it's limits, etc. Finding exploits--yes, that can be hacking, but only if done legally. Else, it's cracking.
As far as I know, there is no such hole.........not surprising........as 'arcane' means 'not well known'
well i think that it doesn't matter if ur hacking legally or not its still consider hacking. can someone else back me up on this or flame me if I'm wrong? :D
no noone will back you up cause your blatently but neway yes jave will not let u accses to the harddrive well it well but its the simplest way of putting now i think that their could be holes that alow u into passsword protected areas coded in java but unless the coder is stupid they would use php or somting else cuase jave is sloooow hehe but just my ideas lol
cya
RiOtEr
blatently?
In the case of Virtual Machine, it's specifically designed by Mircosoft, so of course, I'm sure it's 100% secure and exploit free. :rolleyes:Quote:

my opinion is this thread is going no-where fast and lets just let it die cause it became like most other newbie threads "whats diff between hacking and cracking"
just let it go...

Well I'm going to stick to the original topic on this one. A girl I know asked me how to fix her cupholder on her computer. Now I have never heard of a computer having a cupholder. So I went to her house to look at it. It turned out that she thought her cd-rom drive was a cupholder.

I thought Java was created by sun or wait... microsoft made the jm for windows. so sun made the java and microsoft made the machine? or was it another complay that made java I forget
Ok.........'couple of things. NetSyn and Mr.Dos, kindly don't go arguing on IRC. 'makes the channel less pleasant for those of us who actually want to talk about useful things.
Secondly, 'last I checked, the official version of Java was made by Sun Microsystems, which has no affiliation with Microsoft whatsoever.
Thats what i though...got a lil confused, orginaly wasn't microsoft not going to put the java vm in xp becouse of some fues or something with sun, but they later decide to put it in?
Hmmmm that has to be one of the oldest computer related Urban legends ever ;)Quote:

in answer to the question (I ain't going to get into a debate on whats hacking and whats not, am just going to assume you mean gaining unauthorised access to anothers computer) then I think there is a way that java could help with - Am nearly sure that using java you can download something to a persons comp and run it - so in theory it could be used to d/load a backdoor trojan on to a comp and help gain access that way......
well I think I read about that somewhere anyways

Thats just like any other lauage u can use C, peral, java, basic or pretty much any lauage to write a torjan or a virus, I think what they were debating if in the virual machine was there a bug or hole or something
kinda sounds like when my ADVANCED PLACEMENT computer science course got switched over from C++ to Java Script....
maybe I think i get what ur saying
First, you can hack in java because as KublaiKhan said, hacking is just pushing technology to it's limit. However, you can also crack in java. There are a few possible ways in which you can do this:
1) Exploit a hole in the VM (already been said)
2) Run your java program locally. i.e. write a standalone app and get someone to run it outside their browser.
3) Fool someone into changing their policy file to allow full access rights to remote programs (ie applets).
Cheers,
cgkanchi
I think that was the best explanation yet.
