Problem Booting Windows
Hi,
I am having a problem with one of my computers. I am running Windows XP when i turn my computer on after the post bit when you get the windows loading screen and the screen goes blank the pc then reboots and keeps doing the same thing.
I have tryed booting in to safe mode but when it shows the safe mode files loading on boot up the pc reboots again.
It may be a hardware problem but i dont know much about computers can anyone help?.
Cheers

Hmmmm,
1. Check that all the fans are working
2. Can you boot from the XP CD? if so then run a repair install.
3. Try swapping out the RAM sticks
You aren't overclocking anything are you?

Had a problem with booting. Found out to be a bad ram stick.
Nihil: Did you get my pm btw?

TheX1le, I don't think that will help, given that the guy cannot boot into Windows, even in safe mode.
It is wisest to eliminate possible hardware issues first, because dodgy components can bring down others, and possibly trash the motherboard ;)
My initial suspicions would be:
1. Bad RAM
2. Bad power supply unit (PSU)
3. Bad video card
4. Bad processor (CPU)
So the questions are:
1. Can you boot into Windows from the CD?
2. Can you boot into BIOS setup?
3. Do you get any "beeps" when you power up.............if so, how many?
I do not think that it is malware, as that would normally require Windows to at least start before rebooting.

as stated use the XP disk to try and boot the machine...
Go to the repair console...and run chkdsk /f
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d....mspx?mfr=true
This will check the harddrive...
If you have data on the harddrive you need to recover...you may want to slave the drive into a working machine and copy the data before running chkdsk....
If you cannot access the drive in another working machine...(XP NTFS) you may have a failing hardrive and chkdsk may be able to fix it...maynot :(
Good luck

Hey, Morgana, the interesting bit would be if it will boot into setup?
If it won't? I would say hardware :)

I think nihil is right on the money about it being hardware. My suspicion goes to the fans.
