To the AntiOnline Administrtators and Moderators

Dear AntiOnline Administrators and Moderators,

I was very pleased to have found your site, knowing little about computer security, and found your users very helpful--I appreciate all the help that they have offered plus they are very respectful not to mention patient with my small knowledge. I am hoping to stay around this site a long time because of the great members, whom I fully respect. Having said this, it is very unfortunate I have had an unexcusable incident here.

I was very busy this week and was not able to post or visit for several weeks. I finally got a break from a tense day, and promptly decided to visit your site, which has always been a very enjoyable exception to my day. I was extremely dissapointed and upset when I logged in because I found a message telling me that my behaviour was unnacceptable! I have done nothing but ask questions so that I could help my friend fix up an unfortunate problem with a hacker, ask about my IM, and attempt to offer some advice designed to help users prevent hackers from using a social engineering attack.

I am not quite sure what is going on here, but I feel that this is unexcusable for such a respected site. Although my experience with the members has been a pleasant one, I can not tell you how upsetting this was. I feel that this MUST be worked out for me and future or current users of AntiOnline.

Well, great post, i must say. But, the mesage you got is from getting Negative AP's. Some member give out negs because they are powerfull, and newbies aren't, or just because they are asses. I didn't read all your posts, maybe you posted something wrong too. I just want to say, if you continue to ask smart questions, make smart comments, and help others you will get Positive AP's and go into the green zone and message will dissapear.

Most of the beef that has been tossed at you seems to be about the thread located here

But you must understand that even I could have made up better scenerios than this... and hell, im stupid.

i had to go back and check because i toyed with the idea, but i didnt neg you because Ms Mittens moved it. that was pretty dumb though.

now you know what members do when they dont like something...get over it. it happened to many people that are now long time members. the opposite happens if you post something of value.

Well people this would be the sympathy card, God even i pulled this card under "That" other account, yes you all know what i'm talking about.
Anyhow why is it that when a newbie get's negged for legit reasons they play this card?
If this is what's going to happen when someone get's negged, then why is the AP system here?

and Nielsocky it ain't to hard to work out why you have gotten that grey gif under your handle.
Let me tell you, those little gifs don't mean jack, i mean it don't make you a different person when you got 'em, and when you don't got 'em your still the same person.
So just get used to the fact that you arn't gonna get AP's for every single post you make.

Specialist even if you get greened a lot you still gotta post a lot before you get that elusive Senior Member Status.
And once you get it then you gotta learn to ignore the BullS**t that comes with it.
Man if the newbies knew about what happens behind AO, then they wouldn't be in such a rush to get Addicts Access, let alone Senior status.

i hung out here for a year and my neg points meant nothing because usually they were from some hot head whose opinion differed...i have learned more from this site than any other single source and 99% of the time have been treated with respect

i still dont have any solutions, i dont know a lot, i come here to stay informed...this is the best security info site on the web and when i formatted my puter in hours i had the correct boot .ini file put up when i screwed up the mbr (do a search for xp dual boot)

i didnt give you points for saying lazy *****s but rather for the answer you gave in spite of yourself. in the past you've done nothing but 'grump' whenever someone asked something that could be even remotely construed as asking a hacking question. your willingness to share information lately is a welcome change....thank you. thats all

ok.. now that it's mostly all been said and done.. I think it's time we changed that message from "Mr. Miyagi" .. so I put up a poll in site suggestions..

Welcome to AO, Niels. One of AOs "features" is that member can "rate" other members for whatever reason they want. The original purpose of the AP system was to allow members to deal with trolls, those annoying little wannabes that go around posting about how their ex-g/f is cheating on them and they want to know how to hack hotmail/yahoo/etc. Since then the AP system has grown to be a part of AO, like it or not.

But to let this one thing upset you, strikes me as a bit over the top. It's just a message. I have seen users who were at two red dots (far worse than where you are) and they are now sowing many little green dots with lots of leprecauns. :D So, if I may humbly suggest, read the comments in the APs, make a note of it, send a PM to those you're not sure on or want clarification on, learn from it and go forward. There is so much more to AO than the Mr. Miyagi message. ;)

Now that said, you seem to find the message "bothering". How else would you suggest we change the message to warn people that their present direction of activities may be taking them to a banned account?

I don't know if the message has changed since I had it appear on the frontpage when I logged in, but maybe it can be formulated a bit more complete and serious. Also if I were someone comming to a respected website (everyone his own opinion if AO really is that respected :p) with an avarage of 500 people connected all the time, I'd be quite amzed when I got a message like the mr myagi one. Maybe requiring more negative antipoints before the message shows up would be nice, because a newbie only needs one negative hit (no musquito bite, but a "hit") and they already get a message to **** off taking up more space then all the banners together.
The message may be "just a message" but it was put there to be taken seriously, right?

Erm...after reading this thread, I thought I would check out my antipoints. I went to the antipoints control panel where I saw something rather strange.

It says "total antipoints received: 10," then down a bit it says I haven't received any antipoints. It also says on the page that I haven't assigned any antipoints, and later on the page it shows me a list of antipoints and comments that I have assigned :P ??!?!?!!

Ok, now all of the above is completely beside the point...who really cares if the site is messed up? The real question that should be on everyone on antionline's mind is:

"why hasn't gothic_type been assigned any antipoints". I think on a respected site like antionline things like this just shouldn't happen. I'm gonna report you all to someone. I haven't actually figured out who that someone is yet, but since I have great conversations with myself, I might have to do. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

I want an official account of why this behaviour is tolerated on "the great" antionline, and I wish to receive a formal apology from all members who have not assigned me any antipoints, good or bad (i.e. everyone). And don't say I'm just jealous that I've not got any Mr. Miyagi message and that I'm feeling left out of the "in-joke"; that's just not true. *holds hands over ears and screams* "I'm not jealous of anyone!!!!"

Anyhow...lol, that guy really got upset about antipoints. You wouldn't see me complaining about anything so petty :P

When you join AO you recieve 10 positive AP's if im not mistaken, so thats where you got the AP's from. And You hvaent assigned any AP's because your assigments dont count yet. When you reac a certian level of positive AP's(50 i think) your assigment will carry value. Thats why you can see your comments but it says you have give out 0 AP's.

Recent scientific research conducted at MIT has conclusivley proved this to be impossible. Nothing in the known universe is physically or virtually capable of exceeding the combined size of JupM's banners. Nothing.

you better start learning stuff, then worrying about your antipoints...
and sometimes, these antipoints teach you good...
like last few antipoints taught me good stuff... like, never mail just to say that you agree... n elaborate stuff if you wrote some tutorial etc.... n i m thankful for those negative antipoints...

yeah don't worry about it. "respectable site" it is, house of temperence it is not. So it's not all that bad when some maniac gives you some neggs, try to take advantage of the situation: see yourself through a maniac's eyes ;) ;) ;)
