Which social media method has been the most successful overall
2. 7.62x33 (AK47)
3. 7.62x52 (.308Win)
4. 5.56mm (.223) M-16/M-18/AR-15
How to?
1. Join a gun club
2. Join a law enforcement agency
3. Join the armed forces
The donaldsmith bot now appears to be asking examination questions......... it must still be in early Beta though, as I cannot see any relationship between this thread and "Network Security Discussions", so I am moving it ;)
One of my more recent favorite media methods has become the 7.62x54R. Kicks quite a bit. but is always a good time. I prefer to deviate from the norm to keep things interesting.
The 7.62x33 has undoubtedly been the most successful when one considers its widespread use as a meeter and greeter around the world.
Since this is about social media, perhaps it belongs in networking. ;)
Wow, how did I miss that? Its 39 mm, not 33. That would lead me to believe that at least one of you two doesn't have very much 'real world' experience with such things. :p
I certainly don't have any experience with AK47's.
Well you should. They're one of the cheapest rifles you can purchase (if you include non-Russian imports as AKs) and one of the cheapest high power rifles to shoot. Also a very reliable gun. I say shoot one next time you get the chance. So you know what it's like, and just to say you have. ;)
Shooting two AK's at the same time is fun too....
I refer to my AK as my WWIII gun.
But its sad that the price of ammo has doubled since the new Pres took office...
Since I'm a city guy in close quarters or on a boat, my defensive weapon of choice is a short barrel 12 ga. shotgun.
REAL men use a feckin FLAME THROWER  :D
AK's have some use, as pest control
and may I suggest we spread the social love to the bot and nuke this one too
I always would prefer a handgun in close quarters. I just wouldn't like having a longer barrel, even of a smaller shotgun. Also, if you know what you're doing, a .45 can do just as much damage as a shotgun at close range. But then again, aren't there lots of restrictions on handguns in the UK?
I wish all my neighbors had a sawed off/pistol grip 12 pumper... That way if they miss their target they won't get me all the way acoss the street.
Apartment living was even worse. A little ol 9 mil could kill someone a couple apartments away... Then again, I lived in nice neighborhoods where guys only beat their women and didn't shoot em:argue:
When disturbed from a deep sleep by a group sneaking aboard, I don't want to be bothered by taking careful aim when a short barreled 12 ga. will take out the whole bunch at 20 feet. I wish I still had my Bullpup. They are collectors items now. I wish I still had my open ocean sailboat, too. Alas, the Bullpup and the boat went together.
What a conversation this has become. :) I still prefer the handgun, however I have to remind myself that I'm in a small minority of people who go to the range on a regular basis, and am in fact very good with a handgun, whether it be a subcompact 22 or a 357 magnum revolver.
Hi metguru,
This has become an excellent conversation IMO............ please be aware that I am a boring old fart and that Steve R Jones is a "juvenile delinquent" in my pre-x286 mindset :D
I believe that you are perfectly correct there, but I am going back almost 40 years, when I lived down South and attended Bisley Camp every week (Bisley is our version of Camp Perry).;)Quote:

My mate Dave Hopcroft (Hoppy) was an avid collector of military rifles, and had acquired an "AK47", which he wanted me to try (I shared his interest, and was good enough to represent my country back then)........It was Russian and genuine WWII.
He told me that the Russians made them when the USA came into WWII, so that their troops could use the US .30cal carbine round.............it used the exact same ammo as his M-1 carbine.
I only tried it at 200x but the M-1 was a better weapon IMO. well, I could shoot better with it 'cos it didn't smell of commies :D
Hell's teeth guys!!! this place is starting to be like a community again ?????????????
:)
What does that have to do with the price of something that's totally legal and manufactured all the time?
And also, personally, I prefer an AK to any of the M14 and M16 lines... I did like the M14, but when it comes to usability; An AK-47 is VERY hard to beat. Just in general.
It has almost no kick, and yet the armor piercing rounds will make swiss cheese out of a brick building's walls. All around great gun.
Seeing as your now talking about the best "hardware" to shoot hippies with. I moved this topic from comp discussions to Hardware. :-)
I don't like Hippies, but I can't totally hate them either; I mean, after all, Hippies were part of the Unix Culture in the very beginning, so I can't outright HATE them lol.
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to HYBR|D again.
speculation. All the hardcore conservatives thought Obama was going to be a socialist dictator, so they started stocking up on guns and ammo they'd never use, which is frustrating to someone like me, who puts those things to use. :rolleyes:Quote:

Before you say I'm hating on hardcore conservatives, you have to know that I'm pretty close to one myself, however, I like to add the fact that I have a brain. Obama is to wishy washy to do something like that. He never had any balls. He only had hope.
Whilst it is not good form for moderators to give eachother points, I am only too happy to assist a fellow site member whose opinions I greatly respect.Quote:

:)
To be honest it seems I've given positive reputation to all of the active members at some point in time, so I get that same message when trying to give reputation; I find it comical that AO says to spread it around, but as a result of a low amount of active members, I've run out of people to spread it around to. :(
The price of ammo doubled because people were afraid that the BO administration would further regulate firearms and ammo which they tried to do. For awhile 9 mm ammo was in very short supply. A mod on another forum who was concerned about availability purchased a few thousand dollars worth of ammo (a pallet?) and several additional weapons.
BTW - BO has now required reporting of long gun sales in the SW. I'd guess it is to keep tabs on the Fast and Furious ATF guys who supply the Mexicans.
Does this mean we can go back to Mac vs Win vs Linux vs Unix vs Solaris vs BSD vs BeOS...ok you get the point, conversations?
Well I guess that means with this thread it'd be more along the lines of AK47 vs AK74 vs AK 107/8 vs SKS vs M16 vs ar15 vs M4 vs Remington 700 vs Savage 110 vs 338 Lapua Magnum vs Tac-50...and you get the point again.
GO!
Hah!
Your 7.62x64R gave you away..........that was some sort of Russian WWII rifle
and Lapua would sell it as 63R ;) A somethingorother Nagant, I believe?
As I said, the x33 is the M1 carbine round................which was only issued to officers on the grounds that they could damage fewer of their own troops :D
At least, that's what a certain Gunnery Sergeant Major told me
I'll admit it, I am an avid collector of social media methods in the hardware form. ;) I'll also admit that I am not always into the 'tacticool' style of hardware. I collect just as many items that would be considered very ineffective killing tools in today's standards (and that's obviously not the point of collecting guns), but boy, are some of them just beautiful. I'm surprised it's taken this long to pull this information out of me. I'm into firearms almost as much as computers. :)
This makes me wonder if there is a correlation between IT professionals and firearms use.. We get angry, we shoot stuff.. Or yell at dogs.
Wouldnt it be a cheaper alternative to make the ammo yourself? By buying the primers, casings, bullets, etc yourself and putting them together? My old boss owned a gunshop as well as the software shop we worked in and on slow days, he would have us make his ammo. It was a little unnerving to sit by a case of 10k primers and an 18 yr old with adhd that held an (unloaded) 45 upside down, pinky on the trigger and went "Pew Pew"
My Cousin is an NRA member, and I still remember the day he came over saying Obama was going to basically make some changes to the law about guns and so he was "stocking up" before they weren't legal anymore.
And every time I hear someone say that, I ask for proof that Obama said ANYTHING about it, but no one has as of yet shown it to me. I don't exactly keep up on it, but I've not once ever heard him say a word about guns, ammo, or anything else.
In fact, Bill Maher, the comedian, was talking about this very issue, and said he too couldn't find even one piece of anything where Obama said he was going to take away gun rights. So, I think he may have had a point that the NRA was saying this **** just to drive up membership because they needed money.
I'm from Michigan; We are one of the only Blue States where guns are easy to come by. You can buy AK-47s and M14s and **** here, and you can even get 50 Cals. Most of the time, only Red States allow that, but we do.
And yea I think we can go back to what OS is better. But I think we should have anyway. I mean to be Honest, those threads had better content than half the **** being posted today, and every time I made one, someone found a reason to complain and bitch about it.
Well, TWO members did anyway, but they aren't even here now. So **** em.
BeOS is awesome, and I miss it. Last night I was looking for some CDs, and I was burning copies of ISOs to CD, and I actually found my BeOS Pro 5.0 Installation CD. I need to find a machine that I can install it on, because I LOVED it.
I know there's a few projects out there that are making BeOS alive again, but it's NOT the same! I want the REAL BeOS back!
As for Linux.... Well, Linux has come a long way too. I still use Slackware, SUSE, Debian, and Mandriva, and I still hate Gentoo and Redhat and Fedora, and I sill love FreeBSD.
You must live on the other side of the tracks the nice big house in the suburbs. Check out brown town (there is one in every city and state) come down to Miami, Overtown, 'chopper city,' it is a daily occurrence around these parts.Quote:

It is different in the south. ;)
The polish army WW2 rifle - Nagent.
Seen my brother blow the tail right off a kangaroo at 400 mtrs with one.
Tail was thick as human leg right near the arse.
The ammo box says killing range 3km.
Even had the fold out bayonet for jabbing little brothers like me.
Guns, hmm. I think my favorite is the Winchester SX3, less than 3 seconds for 12 rounds. Yes, there are some that can shoot faster than I, but it is good enough for me.
I'm very Partial:
AA12 all the way!
I do like the AK-47, and the first time I fired one, I was shocked that I could do it one handed because there was basically no kick on it. And the same day, I got to try an M-14, which, again, no kick, much to my surprise. The sawed of 12 afterwards DID have kick though lol.
But yea, if I could own ANY gun, I'd get an AA 12. That's like.... Nuts.
I had to google AA-12....Gotta love this description:
Quote:
April 3, 2009 Assault rifles are all well and good, but when you really need to tear a person to pieces, nothing fills the air with metal quite like a combat shotgun. And for those times when a regular combat shotgun isn't generating enough flying body parts, connoisseurs turn to what must be the most outrageously devastating hand-held anti-personnel murder machine in existence: the Atchisson Assault Shotgun, or AA-12.
You should look it up on Youtube; There's videos of them being fired. Just imagine a Thompson Sub Machine gun, or "Tommy Gun" but instead of 9mm rounds it's 12 Gauge, and you have the AA 12.
It's also got multiple TYPES of rounds:
You have the 12 Gauge Shot Gun shells it can fire, you have a Blasting Shell that explodes on impact to make holes, and, a personal missile. Basically, it fires a small missile that pops out a small propeller on the back when fired and goes straight to the target and blows.
It's basically a 12 Gauge Shot Gun version of the Assault Rifle, and, oddly enough; There's almost NO kick because of the design.... So you have the power of a 12 Gauge, the Kick of like an AK, and the same rate of fire basically. Can you imagine 12 Gauge slugs flying out at the same rate as an AK? Well, that's an AA 12. It's one of my favorite guns ever.
They're amazing.... Simply amazing.... Like I said, go to youtube, look it up, and sit there in awe because these things are awesome.
On the other hand - good ol AK can go across the street - through your brick wall and make you dead.... 12ga buck or slugs would have a hard time making it across the street part:D
But I'll check out the tude video....
EDIT: I want one;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4ebtj1jR7c
That makes the AA-12 a much safer murder machine. :halo:
It's perfect for blasting through slow traffic, too.
This bad boy can be remotely fired. Each cartridge has its own IP address - a cracker's wet dream.
I loved the AK too, but that AA 12 is pretty damn hard to beat. I'm assuming that if you've watched a video of one being fired, you may have also seen one where they talk about the ammo it can use, and, of course, how it can VERY easily out gun the AK in terms of sheer armor piercing, and, of course, blowing holes into buildings.
Yes, the AA-12 is nice, but who owns one?
I do not see the military selling them to civilians any time soon.
I think I will stick to my Winchester SX3.
