Ok, you're reading the results... not me. I can't see what you see. I was just reminding you that there was a difference. You may want to call your ISP and ask them. They're providing you the service. We can only guess with the information you provide.
If the contract says 255Kbps CIR ... then you are "guaranteed" 255Kbps. However, it is possible burst higher than that. They are just shaping your traffic by putting caps on it. If there is more bandwidth available, maybe they're being nice and letting you use some of it?
Are there people around who can be that much nice.....Letting us use extra bandwidth..... But one thing for sure they have build a strong relation with us might be thats the reason for giving us good services..
Those screenshot might help you understanding what i am saying... or may be clearing the things b/w us..... May be i am reading them wrong!!
Sure. We (my work) have a great relationship with our ISP. We use a smaller local ISP instead of using a larger carier. We have personalized support and they're constantly upgrading our service "free of charge" as they get better services available. I guess they appreciate that we *can* use a larger provider but we decide to stick with the smaller guys.Quote:

They've even been nice enough to give us free dial up accounts for our personal use when we travel. Now, we just use hotel broandband and vpn... but in the past we used the dial up.
The service they are giving to us might be 'cause all our up-country branches are on the same ISP...... Just concluding things here...... All i wanna know is so the thing people say for 256 Kbps DSL download/upload maximum speed is 30 K bits per second is wrong concering that brilliant copper telephone wires in my country.
Your DU graphs look like they have "bursts" in them. Most of the graphs looks pretty steady but there is def. bursting going on there. So, youre hitting your CIR and then on occasion, the connection is bursting. When you reach the higher speeds... its only for a couple of seconds, right? Then it goes back to normal?
Could also be your border devices inspecting/queuing the traffic then then bursting it to your workstation?
I still think you should ask your ISP. Only they can answer this for sure.
Yeap that only occurs for seconds when talking abt downloading.... but in uploading case i have seen more than seconds rather sometime more than a min....
256/8=32 not 30... so, 30kB would be incorrect.
32kB would be correct. Then you have some bandwidth for overhead... but either way... 30kB is incorrect.
Hi FanacooL
Yes, I use my country's largest ISP but I am in a small town in a rural area and I signed on in advance when ADSL was being considered here, so I am an original customer.Quote:

I had 512/256 Kbps (bits) and all of a sudden it became 2.2Mbps.....................they reduced the charge by 20% but limited my download to 1Gb per day averaged over 90 days. As I never get anywhere near that, it was a good deal, and they threw in free UK phone calls as well.
They came up with a scheme that suited my usage pattern and was a loyalty reward.
That is good business
;)
