What distro are you using on the iMac? Yellow Dog?
was using 2.2
but have not had up and running for a while
as it was such a long time ago i set it up and i never made any notes, thinking i could remember it all
i think i have not done something with passwords
and in all fairness the linux boxs can see all the PC files but i can not write files to the PC's which is what i wanted as they have a CD burner and my linux box does not
anyhow now trying to get win98 to share internet connection and it is not playing fair!!
what do i put for host name in the DNS server??

Also you problem with shares may be due to file permissions - can you write to them as root?

chomod 777 in terminal as root
logged out and logged back in as root and did the same
changed settings on windows box of files
every thing flips back to read only
do i need to do something with shadow passwords
(ps i have an account on all PC's with same usr name a passwd as linux) although last time i got
it up and running this did not seem nesicary
