For someone who used VNC quite a bit to control PC's around the world in my previous job, that sucks. After using PCAnywhere, switching to VNC was the best decision we ever took, as it was fast, flexible and robust (and free). No way would I want to have to use a M$ product to control a PC halfway across the world over a satellite link.
