Web Streaming
Hey all,
It's been a long time since I've posted mainly due to uni and life in general. I've also been working on my programming skills and I'm not as bad as I used to be :D . On to the topic at hand now: I was considering making a project, partly to test my skills thus far, and also as a possible project for a class. The idea was to make a site that serves streaming content in various formats. I'd like to set up a streaming server(I've been looking at alternatives..I'd be glad if someone mentioned a few free ones though). Since I'm only thinking this through for the moment, does anyone have any ideas how I could go about it? I'd be using Java stuff basically, since I'm not very comfortable with PHP yet. So..beans, JSP, JDBC, JSTL..possibly Ajax. I might look into things like Swing and Hibernate if need be, but since I wanted to get started on this soon I'm not very sure. Also, does anyone have experience building anything of this kind? I'd also appreciate inputs on file formats used.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the input..I prolly should've specified that I'll have video on it as well. In fact, I might even have a dual input from a mic and a camera just for the heck of it.
Cheers

If you wanted a windows option I have used Windows Media Encoder for Live streaming from my XP box. It also has the capabilities to record the live broadcast. And it's free.
