Hi, NasRat,
Please boot into safe mode (F8 when the operating system is loading) and run your antivirus application. Make sure that you have updated it first.
Let me know the names of the viruses it finds.
Cheers
Please accept mt apologies for my bad manners......it is your first post.............welcome to AO :)
The virus, or "malware" is trying to defend itself
Good day,
I believe it was the "liek" virus awhile back that could do that, but hey, there's probably many more now that can as well. One of the first obvious things you need to do is get rid of the virus if you haven't already. There's many Anti-Virus Programs: www.google.com and you'll find one. I am currently using AVG. It's a free one and updates frequently. Hasn't let me down yet.
As far as restoring your key functions you have lost, assuming you're not on a network and it's your own computer this should do it: (if I wrong someone bail me out please)
To Enable or Disable the CTRL+ALT+DELETE Sequence
Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click User Accounts.
Click the Advanced tab.
In the Secure logon section, select or clear the Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete check box.
edit: wow you folks are fast...lol
If this is not your personnal computer and if you are on a network, make sure your system administrator is aware of the problems.
cheers
Your actually are not infected with a virus but a worm. The worm's handle is GAOBOT this is the nasty worm that when you press control + alt + delete it will not bring up the Windows task manager to allow you to disable this service. When a customer calls and infected with GAOBOT we automatically refer them to the vendor.

After you run the software I highly recommend downloading the patches to fix this issue. Hope this helps. Computernerd22
Hi,
The next step is to go to:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hous...start_corp.asp
And run the free online virus scanner. Remember to put an x in the "repair/clean" box.
Is your computer on its own or connected to others............if it is connected to others, they probably have the same infection.
What antivirus and firewall programs are you running?
Cheers
nihil : My AV is not working , i think that i have another virusis running in my PC , in another accounts i can use crtl alt del , i tries AVG but its terial , and didnt work , i tries installing NAV 2k4 but it didnt install it ..
Relyt : i didnt find the Advance Tab ..
ohh and this is my personal computer ..
Computernerd22 : the symantic Goabot Fix tool didnt find anything .. :(
i know .. i need 2 format my PC :) just i have exams Now , i have no time 4 formating and reinstalling all .....
all i ask now is 2 get this "ctrl+ald+del" work ... :)
Hay Nasrat
One question at first. Do you have an antivirus actually installed? When not go www.downloads.com there you will find alot of downloads and such downloads which are antivirus related. You should also get a Firewall e.g. Zone Alarm which is for free.
ohh and i forget 2 say that m trying 2 get some Gtbot work ... maybe this is the reason , i opened somebot in my computer and the bot disabled it .. when i press crtl ald del is says :
" The manager has been disabled by your Administrator" ...
the last bot i tried 2 work with was : "EPiC BoT V1" .. is a GTbot ...
i have no AV .. the avg is out of time ... and the NAV is not installing ... i tried installing the zone alarm pro. but it disabled all the internet connection ( i know how 2 use it , i used it alot in the past ) ... when its installed (it dont need 2 be run) it disabled all the internet connection in my internet except the iexplorer ... the mIRC , msn messenger , bittorent .... All of them havnt work `till i unistalled it ..
and if installed some firewall ... i dont think that it will enable my "ctrl+alt+del" function :)
oops ohh , and i have the same problim with the registery editor (regedit) ...
i cant open itt :(
NasRat,
You need to start your computer in safe mode.
As it starts to boot up (white letters on black screen) just keep hitting the F8 key.
It will bring you to a screen with start up options.
Select "Safe mode with network support"
You should now be able to access the internet, so run the "Housecall" utility that I gave you the link for. Remember to click on the repair/clean box!!!
Download the free Winpatrol from:
http://www.winpatrol.com
Install it : you may have to do that in normal mode, but I do not think that the malwares will know about it
:D
Please let me know when you have done that.
Cheers
Zone alarm hasn't 'disabled' your internet connections, it is just waiting for you to say which services are allowed to access the net.
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hou.../start_corp.asp
as posted by Nihil, this is a web based AV, use it, until you have your own up and running this is your defence.
The F/W can be sorted later.
And finally: There is ALWAYS time to sort out the defences for your PC.... no defence = no PC...
Sigh  Why on earth are you playing with a trojan? What were you drinking/smoking at that time?Quote:

About the AVG being out of time? You need to register it to continue using it. Registration is free.
Guys ... m not asking "how 2 remove the trojan" ... im asking on "how 2 get the "ctrl+alt+del" function and registery editor wookring , " m asking " how 2 enable them" ....
NasRaT,
The two are inextricably related.............get rid of the bad stuff and the system will work again, don't and it won't. It is a simple as that.
The malware is using defence mechanisms to prevent you getting rid of it. If you want to stop that you HAVE to get rid of the malware ;)
Cheers
nihil the computer is not infected ... :)
i checked it as typed in http://www.nohack.net/gtbots.htm ...
its clean , just in some user , i cant use ctrl+alt+del .. or open the regedit ....
NasRaT,
You gave the thread the title "I have a virus"? what are we supposed to understand from that, particularly as the symptoms you describe are consistent with some malwares.
That is quite normal, it is called "security" some user accounts deliberately have authorities revoked. If you log in as Administrator you should be able to grant authorities as you wish.Quote:
its clean , just in some user , i cant use ctrl+alt+del .. or open the regedit ....
If you cannot do this, it is possible that the user profiles have been corrupted, just delete them and re-create them with the authorities that you require.
Cheers
EDIT: You should still do as I suggested, all you have checked for is one particular problem, there are quite a few others that might do the same. You sound as if you have been running unprotected for a while?
Drifting a lil from the orginal topic, how'd the worm/trojan/virus get the ctrl+alt+del function to disable?
And time for another HijackThis log?(http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html) if you're interested..please attach the file rather than pasting the log here
And yes, you're going to have to remove it to get the ctrl+alt+del function to enable again..why do I get the function that you infected yourself and want to keep it for erm, testing reasons?(my thoughts only)..the only other way you can get it removed(that I can think of atm anyway) is to get the source code of the worm..:)
k Guys , the problim is that i had infected with aGtbot , is disabled My Ctrl+Alt+Del in my user (windows XP as i sayed , and its Administrator user the bot, but its affect is still ... i cant open the regedit or Crtl+Alt+del .. `cos the virus had disabled them ... how can i enable them back ?! , in another users i can use them .. just in 1 user i can it says that the Administrator disabled at .. all i want 2 know is how 2 enable them again ,, i have access 2 all users (include Administrator ) ..
Thnx 4 helping :)
The only way you can enable them is by removing the malware that is blocking them. It is running.....I have given you an online scanner and a tool.
Anyway, why do you want to enable these items for only some profiles..........why not just log on as administrator and create new accounts with the authorities you want?
This malware does not edit user profiles.............if those facilities are disabled then you ARE infected, and the malware IS running.
If this is not the case, then the profiles are corrupted and need to be replaced.
I hope that explains.
:)
i find it hard to beleive that it is your own home computer you are using, as most home users would be a tad worried if they have a trojan/worm/virus on their computer.
You seem more worried with getting regedit and the task manager active............why???
Its more likely you are using a computer that has the task manager and regedit disabled for a security reason, proberbly so people like you can mess up the workings of the computer!
// Its not worth telling him how to remove virus's anymore cause he aint interested.
he's trying to gain administrative to the computer...which is not his own, and now he's stuck because he screwed himself over. Live and learn my friend. Listen to what we told you and stop being a spoiled little brat.
lol
third post from the top on page one:
bingo...... :DQuote:
If this is not your personnal computer and if you are on a network, make sure your system administrator is aware of the problems.
But Relyt,
The gentleman says that:
1. It IS his computer
2. He has access to all accounts, including Administrator.
So why doesn't he just log in as administrator, delete any defective accounts and create new ones?
There comes a time when you don't wonder about the marvels of Microsoft, you just fix them?
Unless, heavens forbid, he is lying to us.....................................
Nihil,
He does claim it's his though.

It just surprises me that he hasn't got it taken care of yet after all the guidance. Not having some privileges might make it more difficult though.Quote:

;)
Anyone asked this joker if he can right click on the task bar and get to the task manager this way??
What about pressing ctrl + shift + esc to open the task manager, does that work on your machine?
Correct me if i'm wrong... doesn't the group policy editor (local computer policy) hold a method to stop users of some groups from entering administration commands? such as disabling access to the task manager?
CTL + Shift + Escape - thats a new one for me, i dont think I have ever heard of that before!
Does the job though!
Cheers dood!
Right, all you guys simmer down,he hasnt said a bloody thing in ages! lol,not that I think he's got anything left he CAN say..but bah...;)
NO .. if u think that m Lying , think so .. _|_
annihilator_god : NOp . the same ..
Ladies and Gentlemen,
"Case proven.................guilty as charged"?????????????
Well if not of that, of crass stupidity at the least. If you have Administrator and cannot fix the problem, given the advice that was provided, then you should not have Administrator?
If you ask a question and do not take the advice given, or cannot take the advice given, why ask in the first place?
Now, if you don't have Administrator and want to get it, that would be somewhat different question from "I have a virus" (but won't run any AV software) would it not?
Just my view
Hey NasRaT, quit whilst your behind but still have that little green dot next to your name, I think the reason people have been reasonable with you is because this is essentially your first post.
Just incase I/we are wrong about you though, what happens when you try to uninstall and then reinstall your Anti-Virus?
Its not installing ...
the NAV says that its already installed ...
and the AVG has time out .. and not working
