Well, I still prefer to use IE for MS and some other applications' updates.

I would have thought that anyone who wanted to use anything else would be quite capable of downloading and installing it themselves?

MS's IE is the default browser for use with MS's operating systems. That is hardly surprising, and many people are quite happy with the default. It's almost like "inertial marketing"?

Basically MS have a de facto monopoly of PC operating systems so it is bound to spill over into other products.

Competition isn't about whining to politicians, it is about producing a superior product and selling it to the market ;)

so does this also mean that Mac should not load Safari as the default browser? This is absolutely ridiculous. An operating system has to come with SOME browsers set as default, what would you expect it to be?

Agreed - you have to have some type of browser. But none of the 7 installs I did prompted me for a Browser version.

I believe this is only for European versions.

I also have to point out that to say that anyone is "forced" to use any particular browser is a misuse of the word. If the user is not aware that there are other choices out there, it's their lack of knowledge which is hemming them in, in which case these other browsers should be on a quest to educate users, not to unreasonably accuse their competition.

I don't for a moment deny some of Microsoft's business practices have been rather shady, but this isn't one of them.

When IE was default it was a problem. Now they are giving an option to decide what you want - it is STILL a problem.

Just use the browser that you want. They added an option if you don't like it move on..

System, they can destroy any company that writes software
that runs on that OS

Once upon a time they had an OS. Others wrote word processors
games, web browsers. If the people who own the OS decide to expand
into other apps, goodbye other companies, not just because they
provide the default app for "free", but because the competitor's
app suddenly doesn't run well any more. Has anyone noticed how badly
Adobe's apps run lately? Are they really incompetent programmers,
or is it because they can't get access to undocumented APIs?

And don't get me started about Apple. They are much worse.

I don't use that many Adobe products but certainly their Acrobat reader I have always regarded as a hunk of crap, and it's not a recent occurrence. The first time I tried Foxit, I immediately deleted all traces of Adobe acrobat from my machines and they haven't seen me since.

I don't use them anymore. The quality is not like it used to be, and their security................:rofl:

I wouldn't blame MS for the less than stellar performance of FF 3.5.x either.

right, neither would I, because there were no changes to my OS prior to the upgrade, and that's when the performance went south.

I think they will multiple browsers to be isntalled alongside I.E like with Nix ...

So i'm like the only 1 who does use Adob'e software on my Window boxe's?? ::hide-beh

I suddenly feel like i've stepped infront of the firing squad :eek:

Bad for me since the first thing I do is uninstall everything except the operating system in itself.

I can't recall having need for any of their software except Acrobat, and for a while I had Photoshop version 7. I can't stand programs that leave processes running after I close them. Acrobat always left acroRD32 .dll running after close, sucking up 32 meg of resource.

32mb might of been a big amount a few years back, but this day in age what with the amount of ram you can put in, hard drive sizes etc 32mb is a pittance to be worried about.

I guess i just never liked the look or feel of Foxit reader.

i use image ready, and photoshop on a regular basis, i haven't been able to find anything equivilant that suite's my needs. But they are installed on another machine that is used for Graphic related stuff.

For some odd reason Gimp seems to lock up my windows machine.. I got over having to :argue: the puter everytime it happened.

Well , we are an adobe reseller as well and I am the only one who doesnt use any adobe software on my machine.

Trying to install master collection will take about the whole day to install.

The programs are cool for the marketing guys but yeah , memory hog of note :P

I'm not really a graphics guy, I have little more than a journeyman's knowledge of Photoshop or paint shop Pro. It's not a question of how much resource, it's just the idea of unnecessary processes running that I don't like. Like driving a car with the emergency brake on.

Fair enough, it's down to each there own i guess. :) and :p at the hand-brake theory. I've witnessed a few old/young people driving round with there hand-brake still on, they must of being trying to save there break pads.:D
