DNS Server Software
Ok, so we are upgrading from 98&nt to 2000 and XP. This is great, however, since NT uses a diff system then 2000, we now need to set up our own DNS server(s). I have started researching software packeges for this and can only find ones that are for single computers or for use in conjunction with dhcp. I am looking for a software package that can be used with an entire network set up on static IP's. We need to access local pages as well as everything outside. Any sugguestions on where to start looking or how to start? BTW: we have a local DNS server set up, but obviously we need outside also....
Any help would be appriciated!
Thanks in advance!

Well....If you're running windows 2000 server, then you can just run the MS DNS server that somes with win2k. Our you can run BIND. You can find more info on BIND here.

I would just recommend using the DNS that comes with Win2K. This way the workstations on the domain automatically get updated in DNS and it helps with Active Directory login. That is what we use at work. If you are running any NT or 98 machines on the network you may want to set up the WINS server too.

Windows 2000 DNS is actually fairly simple to set-up and configure. Quicker than Solaris (although I prefer Solaris personally) I set-up one of my training rooms with 3 MSE machines in two domains with 16 2k servers in about 2 hours with MX and forward and reverse zones. It is actually fairly easy and intuiative, until you start playing with AD then it is more like Netware NDS then anything else but confusing nonethe less. Assuming your using a Firewall, configuring your NAT is going to be the hardest.
