Ummm... connect to a LAN?
And, may I say, welcome back once again.
Are you connected to the LAN? Can you get online and do local network ****?
I think that you check the display modem status box in options :)
is just the icon missing or can you not connect to the internet as well? if you cannot connect, then make sure the drivers for your nic are installed.
I can connect.I just want to see those Icons.Yes, I am connected to a LAN.
AFAIK dont think there is a LAN icon in 98....other than the modem connection that nihil mentioned
It is in 2000\XP.....

The icon in the taskbar next to the time is your modem. It shows you amount of data transferred, speed, length of connection.
<start>
<control panel>
<dial up networking>
<connection settings>
Check the box marked "show an icon on taskbar after connected"
Or you can do it in options when you set up a new link as I suggested earlier.
Win9x/ME were designed as stand alone OSes so do not have the LAN icon (which shows you a map of connected devices etc)..............that is NT4/Win2000/XP
;)
EDIT: You will only see this icon if you connect through a dial-up modem.
