surely....if both pcs are plugged into the router, they can just talk via that? I mean, that is what routers are for....

Assuming it is that the pc's can't talk at all, are they both on the same subnet? do they both have IPs assigned? been a while since I did a crossover.

IPX protocol installed? NetBios installed?...
