is your anti virus definition updated? if not then updating your virus definition would be a good step in detecting viruses.

why not try cd /usr/bin/nmap just to check if the path exist? if it does then try running nmap from there

try booting from your start up disk then run the scandisk from there and make it to do surface scan

man, just open your pc case and see for yourself the wirings. now if you think you can follow how the cables on the cdrom and the hd is plug, check the pin configuration of the hd you want to plug...
