    I would think it is the partition..Are you trying...

    I would think it is the partition..Are you trying to open a partition with fdisk ??
    Fdisk expects disks not partitions.. try: fdisk /dev/sda
    That might help ;)

    there might be a lot more info then the above error message in /var/log/messages and /var/log/syslog
