One more comment. For now ;)
When you look around in the forums at eham.net and the like, do not let the negative attitude by some of the posters discourage you. I suppose it's just like any...

Have you run fisk on the hard drive to see if it is partitioned correctly? It sounds like the hard drive has a very small active partition on it.

I agree with morgan. If it is your site/domain then it is easy to change Domain records to point to new name servers and a new host. You won't be doing anything even remotely questionable or...

What I had to do here to "fix" this on Windows 2000 systems that are never turned off was open the clock from the system tray. Click on "time zone". Click on OK. Then I had to do it again. When I...

I'm suprised that nobody has mentioned the software firewall in XP. The XP firewall, Zonealarm or Black Ice and other software firewalls will prevent connections from other machines on the network.

Things to check:
Boot devices in BIOS. I had a system do this to me and I found someone had disabled the hard drive as a boot device. Actually, they enabled HDD-1 as the boot device. I found...

This is digging way back in the dusty recesses of my memory with a few cobwebs thrown in for good measure. Telnet is obviously an Internet application. Telenet was, if memory serves, a BBS and/or...

We got hit by this on six of our machines last Friday. The only thing they had in common is that they were all upgraded from NT4.0 to 2000. It uses the Windows Messenger Service not MSN Messenger. ...

Just another "Old Fart" checking in. I started out on an IBM 360 running Fortran, Cobol and RPG. Programs were coded on punch cards. Then the Community College acquired a DG Nova 1200 running...

This is probably a legitimate web site but I just can't make myself put my card number into this site to see if it is known. I just seems like a credit card security risk in it's own right. Think...

I'm just tired of whoever is doing this filling a lot of space in my logs, wasting my time and taking up bandwidth.

I would like to believe it's not an attack except it's happening to about six servers and the requests are malformed. It's sending things like three or four character URLs IE: sftm or cme without...

Cheeseball,
It appears to be a TCP attack as it's only poking at port 80.
According to ARIN the IP block is owned by Verio.net, a reverse lookup says it's probably been reassigned to...

You don't need a domain controller to access a Win2k server or workstation from a workgroup. All you have to do is manage users on the stand alone server or workstation just like you would on a...
