I have checked all the usual id10T issues.
I just gave up and will cut n paste the links into puTty.
No messages in the event veiwer but I do get an "application not found" window(as if the telnet protocol doesn't have a program association) and then when I click ok it says " The protocol specified...
Yeah, dude that's the one I tried. if you open that with notepad this is what it looks like:

There are plenty of folks who claim they got it working. They say the registry hack I posted resolved thier issue but it didn't work for me.
I guess the telnet issue with vista is well known by all now.
I solved the telnet client issue by a forum that gave me this:

I have seen this issue before. I am assuming that the hard drive and cd rom are ok.
