I'm not sure I understand. What exactly is it about Mandrake that renders one so incapable of understanding the inner workings of the *nix system? I assume you have used Mandrake?

The SSH protocol also has support for file transfers, and it's a lot more secure then FTP. However, it will be slightly harder then ftp to set up, especially if you're on a non-*nix.
