actually... NTFS is a format designed for windows pretty much, and usually, Linux has a hard time recognizing or doing anything with NTFS formatted disks

The best bet for your situation is that somebody might have tried to infect you with a trojan, and edited the port at which it connects at. A lot of trojans (Sub7, BackOrifice, etc.) allow...

As for PHP being faster than ASP, that COULD be true, but it's nothing at all noticeable.

Knoppix is a GREAT distro of linux.. and best of all, 100% bootable from CD! and it's got all the best tools for anything security related.
