Hmmm. I am skeptical of how well that will work. How much extra overhead will that require for an OS to be functioning as not only the OS, but an IDS, and a Software Validation System all the time?

It seems that your time would be better spent looking for unusual traffic caused by a router being plugged in, rather than scanning for a device. Just a thought.

W32/Mimail.s@MM was discovered yesterday. McAfee people need to get the 4321 dat files released just a couple of hours ago.

SMS with SUS is definitely the way to go. We have recently implemented this system, and man does it make for a real nice way to keep up with patch levels on systems. Make deployment of the patches...
