1. If you are using the client manager to connect to the network, do you have Windows Wireless Configuration disabled? vice versa.

Yes, you would be able to see the ARP requests. Depending on how paranoid he has Norton setup, the desktops would drop the packets instead of replying "not here"

Time change would do the trick as mentioned about. However, trying to do forensics on 98 is trying to find a needle in a haystack. Good luck.

FLuke networks provide such a device. Otherwise, ham radio equipment will be needed.

In an easy fashion: no. But yes, there are ways to avoid what you described above. Nothing dependable or cheap.

I use Airopeek for wireless and Airo* for wired. *=I forgot the name of the product. I'm thinking Aironet. There are torrents available.

no, windows firewall barely meets the requirements of a firewall. It will screw up the TCP/IP stack randomly *although not as often as ZoneAlarm* It doesn't do state inspection nor monitors incoming...
