I read through MS02-065 and I guess Microsoft has decided to leave W95 out in the cold again. I know they've discontinued support for the o/s but one would think critical security flaws would...

I agree with Tedob1, JP needs to be cloned!
Haven't had the time to hang here for awhile but sure would miss it if AO were gone.

I agree... more info would save everyone a lot of time!
On older systems (Windows only) I have experienced a NIC card not loading the drivers properly and/or not being detected by Plug and...

Took a look around and didn't see this post as yet this morning.
I saw this via a newletter I receive and thought I would go ahead and share it.

I loved the Sun LX 50 ad introducing Linux on a Sun server today:
Quote: "We would've put Windows on it too, but there wasn't enough room for all the security patches".

Since MS frequently resorts to bully behavior, I'm not surprised. Most bullies don't hold the same set of rules for themselves that they do for others. I.e. "they" are exempt.
I had not heard...

A year and a half ago, I was completly focused on certification. Spent big $$ taking a class I wasn't even prepared for (80% of that money was completly wasted). Focused on test questions, test...

I believe I've seen I've seen and update at Windows Updates specifically to allow older programs to run on XP. Have been wanting to try it on a friend's system but haven't had the chance :-(

Good discussion and interesting to read everyone's thoughts.
I agree that the sys admin has the tougher job if for no other reason than the hacker, in theory, has one target to shoot at. The sys...

What a list!!!
I agree with intruder. Tutorial forum isn't a place I would look for a list of links.
Maybe AO should have it's own Library :-)
Thanks acid! That one must have taken you some...

I agree with allenb1963... spoofing (that's what I'll call the "empty files with a song title") is just another form of hacking and that (at least according to what I've read) is what the RIAA has...

I'm assuming when you say it starts at 100% that it stays at 100%.
On my network, I've had many problems with HP Vectras and rundll32. rundll32 would initiate with a dial-up connection and then...

As much as I would enjoy the "simplicity" of decision making based on the volumns of facts I've learned, most of my important decisions have come from my gut.
But with the capibilty it is...

I have the same frame of mind as DR.
Only one problem.... this place is beginning to have the "whisper of addiction"
I'm in full production of a W2000 network at home in prep for a MS...

I'm not a big Norton-anything fan (although SARC is awesome).
Several years ago, I bought a Norton product called PC Tools. Thinking I was being a wonderful "caregiver" to my system, I installed...

In W9x, if I recall, there are 2 points you need to address.
The modem options in the control panel as well as the properties of your dial-up networking icon.
Have not tried to do this in XP,...

Excellent, excellent strategy! Didn't understand everything you did to catch this guy (I'm certainly no ISP admin), but I loved the net send solution!

I have mixed systems throughout my network... W9x, W2k & XP.
The systems I get the least support calls on are, by far, the W2k Pro & XP Pro.
Come to think of it, I think I've had fewer than 5...

Reading through AO FAQ's, some tutorials and general senior member comments, what stands out is that they know what their talking about.
A shining example, for me, is the power of Google. I've...
