I can't find a single thing about it on Google, apart from alot of US college sites who use the Web side of Exchange to change passwords...would this be an option?

Thanks for all the info, but I'm up in Scotland and as such have slightly different rules to adhere to. NHS Scotland don't seem to be as security minded as our English counterparts!

Is there such a thing as a piece of software that will permanently monitor your network for machines with shared drives, open ports etc?

Project R3X seems to do everythign that i was aksing! Finds pretty much everything connected to your network that has an IP address, and then saves it all as a nice HTML file. Even cracks...

Yes, if you can't see the Pcs from outside then they aren't vulnerable...from the outside! They are not connected to the Internet directly!
