You may want to checkout IPCop. It does everything you are looking for and much more. I've been very pleased with it.

What kind of router are you using?
If it's a Cisco router you can save the config to text files if you are in by console, or you can save your configs to a TFTP server on the network(recommended).

Which password are you changing?
If you are referring to the administrative password then the answer would be no. Changing the administrative password has no effect on encryption or certificates.
