I just read Cuckoo's Egg and Kingpin a few weeks ago. If you like true story hacking type books, I also recommend "Masters of Deception: The Gang That Ruled Cyberspace". I read it years ago, and...

Where's everyone hanging out these days? I think I tried to get on unerror not too long ago and it was dead. What IRC networks do the "old timers" frequent, and also what forums, if any?

I actually joined after AO was sold and IRC was no longer affiliated to the site and I thought it was great. I wasn't even around for the "good old days", but I still loved the site. I got a lot...

Just wanted to share a link a friend of mine showed me yesterday: http://www.javabat.com

I'm not at a place where I can run this, but I'm curious. How does it affect the appearance of the image? It seems like it would make a few pixels very out of whack. I did a project in college...

I just ignore stuff like that. The only time you have to worry about it is if you're running the web application they're trying to exploit. I have fun collecting their remote include scripts though...

That's what you're getting I'm pretty sure. I don't think there's anything missing. I think you're getting what you're supposed to be...

I believe 42 bytes is correct. What you're thinking of is something else. You should have an Ethernet header that is 14 bytes, then an ARP packet that's 28 bytes. I did see something showing 64...

I actually learned a lot from this forum and a few others. I also like to take classes at school. I just finished a computer science degree back in May and learned a lot from that. Google is...

It was in my log file, but years ago. I've reinstalled the OS and installed different apache httpd versions since then. For some reason though, something recently made me think of it. I'm hoping...

Nope. I don't have the data. I'll probably just try installing older versions of Apache and throwing long strings of data at it until I get results.

I'm not sure if that's it or not. I was just thinking you could do something like:
GET /index.php?OVERFLOWOVERFLOWOVERFLOWOVERFLOWOVERFLOW<?php session_start();...

Here's a little background. A long time ago I was going through my apache access_log and noticed a few entries where someone was trying to do some sort of exploit, and basically they were sending a...

Yes, it is most definitely possible, and that's exactly what command line arguments are passed to your program as. If you write a C program that takes command line arguments, your main function will...

You don't have any shellcode or anything. You're just calling system() with no arguments. It needs a command to execute. You need to get the address of a string with the command you want on the...

I took a class on it. Apparently it's big for transferring child pornography. My professor helped the FBI out with detecting it. Not the nicest real life use, but it's an example.

I was trolling on yahoo chat the other day pretending to want to learn assembly, and someone gave me a link that actually seemed useful. Hopefully it has something like what you're looking for on...

Good deal. You probably want a static IP anyway if it's going to be a file/print server on the network. Good luck with Samba and whatever you use for the print server and let us know if you run into...

I got my ring. It's so pretty. I won't give too many details, but you'll be very excited when you get yours. It's definitely worth the wait.
