What do you mean by advanced? There is nothing out that I know of that employs any kind of new technology like retna scannig or anything. Did you try RH 7.1? if so try Mandrake.

The RedHat 7x distro should come with a burner software. Make sure you do the linux install last or M$ will screw up your boot system. I recomend LILO

I think C++ would be the best to start learning first. Dont start out doing some kind of OOP C++ though I would first use GNU which is a Linux based compiler.
