run rpm -qa |grep synaptic*. This will show you the RPM package name as it is installed. From there just run 'rpm -e <pkg_name>'
If you want the easy way out, just try this 'rpm -e...

but could u just specify the board and the onboard VGA u r usin?
in most common cases
# XF86config will do the trick
use the vesa mode...

hei did u use vi ti edit?
make sure that u r familiar with all the commands and keys in "vi"
like the insert ha ha

UltraVNC can support SSH , maybe u can use it
as far as gui is concerned, VNC is the best, although there is cygwin, VNC fees more comfortable and essentially stable for professionals

OK since u have already used some distros, u can use either RH 9.0 or say the SCO version of united linux. Its blazingly fast and stable too.
