FREEBSD!!! its awesome-ports and packages are the best thing ever invented. linux tends to copy a lot of what freebsd does.

you dont have to have apache or mysql to run snort....only snortsnarf. see if you can get tcpdump to work (winpcap) then go from there.

you have to have a web server for snort snarf. get apache if you cant get IIS. also, search google for Snort+NT+install....i know there are step by step instructions out there.
