There's always one isn't there.
As I said in my original post, I thought that it was only possible to have one computer validated for my account. Since then, this has been confirmed - validating a...

My University residential network requires you to 'validate' your computer when using it for the first time. Basically it ties your login details to your computer.
I'm guessing it does this by...

yeah, I've just been looking on google. However, this is 1and1 hosting, not my own server. So I'm guessing I should contact them?
Edit: thinking about it, seeing as these are in the error log,...

I've just looked at my server error logs on 1and1 hosting and have found some odd looking pages:

I'm trying to find a log of all files printed, on Win XP.
I've looked in the system log: control panel> admin tools > event viewer
But it doesn't seem to list print events.

I'd like to make a clone of my hard disk on an external HD, but I need to be able to boot from the clone.
Retrospect Express says it can't create a bootable clone. I have Norton Ghost, but...

They've actually reduced the price as well as the bandwidth. If you want unlimited bandwidth, you just pay the old price.

Does anyone know of a site where I can sell my web page templates, or find people who need a website designing.
I know about webdesignforums.net, any others?

I'm sorry? I'm guessing that....you're infected with smartsearch.
Have you run Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy?

I noticed when I got a firewall, Explorer wanted to connect to the net. What for I don't know.
If there's something trying to connect that seems suspicious, just block it. You can always change it...

Well i've given up and downloaded Firefox. I reckon that with Adaware, Spybot, SpywareBlaster, a popup blocker, nasties in the Restricted sites...etc etc, there's not much else i can do!
-
June 20th, 2004, 03:45 PM
Yeah, I used Spybot to create the hosts file.
I also have its immunisation and SpywareBlaster installed.
I'm sure it's not to do with the file itself, and my system comes up free of spyware.
I...

As per my earlier post, i've run spybot and adaware, and also in safe mode. They came up clean.
Also, how could the .bho file be hijacking me when it only contained: 127.0.0.1 localhost
Anyway,...

Sorry, i meant to say. I later checked those two files, the .bho was a backup, and all it contains is:
127.0.0.1 localhost
the other one was automatically generated for Internet...

It couldn't be one of my anti-spyware programs could it? You know, with their hosts file protection? However, I thought this just made it read only.
I've scanned with spybot and adaware, but will...

I'm using IE6.
I got rid of the other hosts files and cleared the temp Internet files but still no luck.
I suppose putting them in the restricted sites zone would be pretty much as good.

just realised it could be because of a proxy (web cache) so i'll try bypassing it for local addresses
edit: that didn't seem to work.
-
June 20th, 2004, 01:42 AM
erm...no, its associating the offending host name with my IP..so it goes to my localhost instead of them.
-
June 20th, 2004, 12:44 AM
Ok, so I thought I'd update my hosts file with a load of servers that give you nasties:
127.0.0.1 coolwwwsearch.com
127.0.0.1 coolwebsearch.com
127.0.0.1 hi.studioaperto.net
etc...

He said it was scanning outgoing messages, as in email messages.
First of all, get a firewall, so you can block the program's access to the internet...just disallow anything you don't recognise....
