Nihil, I believe that NIN (nine inch nails) are an industrial band. I'm not a huge fan of their music, but they are much more enjoyable than 99% of the poo-poo radio stations pass off...
You need to give a few more specs on the laptop.
If the notebook is Pre "MacBook" then it is running on the PowerPC processor. If it is a MacBook, or MacBook Pro, then it is running on the Intel...

Does it currently work on windows? How about another box running fedora? In my experience, thumb drives just fail sometimes.....is there something important you need off of it?

well, then its possible that they just issued the same notice twice. Perhaps something got 'crossed' inside the ISP, causing them to issue more than one notification.
