Open up the computer and see what the settings are(master, slave) Set i to master on the seconday IDE controller an try running an auto detect, if it has it, in the CMOS and see if it detects it. Or under standard CMOS setup set all the drives to auto.
Try aso building a linux boot disk using the rawrite utility under dosutils.
