    Cool

Windows 98 SE works just fine for me. It never crashes, and in the two years I have had it there have been no blue screens or other stupid errors. However my mother runs the original Windows 98 and it crashes every day.

Its great to know linux, however so many people out there use some form of windows so us techs have to know windows inside and out.

How 'bout all of the above. A computer is a computer is a computer. So long as you know how to use the OS that is on that computer, you can do almost anything you want.

Personally, I like things that do things, and figuring out how they do what they do. I am on MacOS right now, but I have a NetBSD machine that I am securing, and I have a Win2k/98 dual-boot at home, that over the summer ran WinXP beta2/PR1/PR2.

I liked DOS, I liked using my old Commodore 64/128 and I like playing with the VMS server that my school runs.

Philosophically I like Linux better than any other, but when it comes down to it, you give me a machine and a book on how to use the OS to its fullest capabilities, and I will be as happy as a clam.

Talking It's all about whatcha doin with it

Here is my take on operating systems

Win9x-Me-Xp are good for most people, most people don't need or want anything different than that videos, mp3s gamming whatever is good with this.
Win2k Win Nt and oh say xp again if configured corectly isn't that bad. It's good for lan type of enviroments where you need an easy operating system that can handle most games but is still pretty secure.
Mac OS is the pimp for grafical design and multimedia editing, and with the new OS may even make a good server.
BSD if you are running a server and need security.
Solaris same as BSD but I have some "creative differences" with Solaris.
Linux it's free it's pretty secure (bsd has better support, ie someone payed to do it does the job faster even that's not always the case) it doesn't play some of the games I want to play.

Ill tell you, I may dislike bill gates but he did do a nice job when he built 2000.

Here is my thoughts on other OS ive used.

95: too out dated to do anything but work IE. excel, Word wanna play mine sweep?

98: tends to lock up alot, not secure enough.

ME: lets not go there.....LOL musta been low on funds for this OS.

NT: great security but dont expect to play games on it.

2000 server: Really how many ports do I really need. unless you are a server?

2000 You better have a manual for this one, between the security and the user setup and the parents rights and what may have you.

Unix: really do I look like a programer, maybe it was good for my grandfather.

linux: good for the hackers, crackers, geeks and freeks. but I have a life besides ****ing up other peoples ****.

well we covered most of them. and yes Ive used them all. And I ask myself will there ever be a good OS? the world may never know.

There is a big difference between the original 98 and 98 SE when it comes to crashing.

    Smile My choices

I love the capabilities of Redhat and linux in general..
But use Win 98se or win 2k most of the time..
98SE is awsome never had a prob with it..
2k is nice cuz of multi threading...but drivers can get interesting.
