    Ultimate honey pot

    Free honeypot

These links should gibe a basic concept at IDS and honeypots. Spectaer allows you to emualte whatever os you like. Back officer freindly is a nifty program that lets you emulate servers such as ftp and will even allow you to customize responses.

Know this..., you may not by thyself in pride claim the Mantle of Wizardry; that way lies only Bogosity without End.

Rather must you Become, and Become, and Become, until Hackers respect thy Power, and other Wizards hail thee as a Brother or Sister in Wisdom, and you wake up and realize that the Mantle hath lain unknown upon thy Shoulders since you knew not when.

In my search for IDS related information have I read a lots of material and today did I found a nice article in SecurityFocus newsletter.

    An Introduction to IDS
    by Paul Innella

Intrusion detection systems, or IDSs, have become an important component
in the Security Officer's toolbox. However, many security experts are
still in the dark about IDS, unsure about what IDS tools do, how to use
them, or why they must. This article will offer a brief overview of
intrusion detection systems, including: a description of what IDSs are,
the functions they serve, the two primary types of IDS, and the different
methods of intrusion detection that they may employ.

Another nice article from SecurityFocus newsletter describing the future of IDS.

    The Future of IDS
    by Matthew Tanase

Writing about the future is a risky venture. More than likely, one will
end up wrong, or worse yet - so far off that memories of the forecast
bring waves of embarrassment. There is, however, the slightest chance of
success; lucky for me then that the task at hand, a discussion of the
future of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), is a bit easier to model.

I think the next generation of these products are really going to stand out.. They have had time to watch the app and how to fool it. By mid year we should see some real tight sentryware.

Msg on posting every twenty seconds came up. I didn't think my browser was that fast.

The competition between the security firms is heating up for 2002 because recession and all, there is still a dearth of good apps in the field.
