    Windows ME

I have to disagree, Im surprised actually usually ME is spared as the best Windows OS [ of course 98 is the hackers choice?].

Yes, there is an certain degree of crashing. Its not Linux but its still an ok OS, I am running it with a partition [Linux Mandrake].
Ive been using it for say a year or so now, switching betwen Linux for learning [mainly programming, general security] and back to ME for messing about in when my head is sore from real computer work.

Have you tried many other OS, QNX is nice.

Now i'm no microsoft basher, as an nt admin its my bread and butter, but i have to say any experience i've had of ME has been all bad. Did you ever try to "upgrade" (more of a downgrade if you ask me) a windows 98 pc with applications installed that relied on real mode dos support or the 98 tcp stack? If you did you'll know about the slew of errors that this quite common situation brought with it. Or how about the system file checker that kept some apps from installing?
Imho, win me was just an excuse for microsoft to squeeze the last bit of money from the 9x kernel.

I would have to say that I happen to use ME on one of my computers at home and my wife has it on hers as well. I have not had any problems with my machines. I would have to agree with petemcevoy, in that, the only thing I have seen as a problem is applications running i DOS mode. I say it is time to get out DOS and move into the future. I have never been a big fan of DOS. I do however admit that could be from a lack of knowledge.

Microsoft removed all the good system tools from the DOS age when they released winME.

As I said earlier, i couldnt believe it when i saw that both sys, and format /s are no available.

    bill gates sucks

sorry but windows ME sucks. Bill Gates laughing his butt of about the suckers that bought that oper/sys. but if you do want a really good op/sys. try windows 2000 pro. or server. allows you to lock down any port that is open and the security side of it is awsome and im not saying this just because I am MCSE qualified on the 2000 op/sys. stay away from XP unless you want to spend your life savings to get it. Its unburnable, after 30 days with the bootleg copy you installed it shuts itself down unless you call in to microsoft and pay them to register it.

Afaik there's a few ways round the windows xp product activation, and phoning them to pay for it after 30 days wouldn't work either.

Thumbs down Got rid of dos

I hate the fact that they got rid of DOS, to me DOS was the easy way of fixing problems, trubleshooting, etc.

Just like if Linux took away the consol and went streight to X, instead of having a real consol they would have a "command prompt", i dont know about you but id be pissed....

I like dos because i can load the computer in DOS mode and fix everything that is wrong(almost everything) especially when those damn windows files are messed up, then u gotta get a boot disk and most of the time re-install...

I dont know i guess its just me.
